San Pedro Lions Club delivers donation to Caye Caulker fire victims

The San Pedro Lions Club is always helping those in need, and on Saturday, November 25th, they headed over to our sister island, Caye Caulker, to assist a group of fire victims with much-needed financial assistance. They handed over a financial contribution of $5,000 which was made possible with the collaboration of the San Pedro community, the San Pedro Town Council, and Lions members.

World Diabetes Day is observed across Belize; Diabetes is the fourth leading cause of death in the country

On Tuesday, November 14th, health partners in Belize joined millions around the globe observing World Diabetes Day under them is ‘Access to Diabetes Care.’ Leading the activities was the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW), whose campaign focuses on knowing your risk of type 2 diabetes, highlighting the impact of disease-related complications and the importance of having access to the correct information and care to ensure timely treatment and management. Some activities held to commemorate the day included community clinics offering free diabetes tests and wellness checkups, as well as informational sessions at schools across Belize.

San Pedro Lions Club hosts diabetes wellness day

The San Pedro Lions Club continues its hard work on the island, and on Saturday, November 4th, it hosted its annual Diabetes Wellness Day. The general public was invited to take advantage of an array of free, high-quality health services, including, but not limited to, glucose and blood pressure testing, brushing and flossing demonstrations, drug information, and counseling. Flu and papillomavirus vaccines were also available, along with medication and massages for diabetic patients.

San Pedro Lions Club celebrates 48 years of serving La Isla Bonita

The San Pedro Lions Club celebrated its 48th anniversary on Saturday, October 21st, welcoming new Lion members and the official installation of the island's Leos Club. The celebration also saw inspirational speeches, many Lions honored, followed by dinner and the performance of San Pedro's beloved and number one band, Rompe Raja!

Mobile Health Clinic continues to promote healthy living in San Pedro

In a continuing effort to promote healthy lifestyles in San Pedro Town, Area Representative Honourable Andre Perez and partners organized another installment of the Mobile Health Clinic on Friday, October 14th. Held at the Sagebrush Belize Campus in the Boca Del Rio Area, the initiative is a collaboration between Perez, the San Pedro Town Council, PAHO Belize, the Ministry of Health and Wellness, and the San Pedro Lions Club. Throughout the day, island residents benefited from information on leading a healthy lifestyle and free consultations with medical specialists.

National Service Day observed in San Pedro

On Tuesday, September 19th, Belize observed National Service Day and the 12th anniversary of the passing of the Father of the Nation, the late Right Honourable George Cadle Price. In San Pedro Town, different groups in the community paid tribute to the day and the founder of the country’s independence. The San Pedro Town Council, the office of Area Representative Honourable Andre Perez, and the San Pedro Lions Club held different activities honoring several community members.

MOHW Minister Hon. Kevin Bernard tours San Pedro Polyclinic; staff kitchen room get appliances

On Thursday, September 7th, the Minister of Health and Wellness (MOHW), the Honourable Kevin Bernard, visited San Pedro Town and stopped at Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II to discuss how his ministry can assist the island’s main referral health facility. Area Representative Honourable Andre Perez and San Pedro Lions Club members accompanied the minister during his tour of the facilities. The visit also saw the government representatives donate a stove, gas tank, and television set for the staff kitchen room.
