Caye Caulker resident charged for assaulting American partner

Leodan Lara, a resident of Caye Caulker, has been charged with Wounding following reports that he assaulted his disabled American partner, Emily Lydon. The incident reportedly took place on Monday, February 3rd, when Lara assaulted Lydon in Caye Caulker. After the incident, Lara was detained and subsequently charged with Wounding. On Wednesday, February 5th, he was taken to San Pedro Town for arraignment. Lara remains in custody at the San Pedro Police Station and was scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, February 6th.

American tourist charged for girlfriend death in fatal golf cart accident in San Pedro

Following the tragic accident on Friday, December 6th, which resulted in the death of American tourist 40-year-old Jennifer Hernandez, police have charged her boyfriend, 39-year-old Isaac Jeremy Flores. He faces charges of reckless driving, driving without due care and attention, death by careless conduct, and failure to provide a specimen for analysis. Flores was arraigned at the San Pedro Magistrate Court on Monday, December 9th, where he was granted bail set at $10,000, along with a surety of $5,000. He was able to post bail and avoided being remanded to the Kolbe Foundation Central Prison in Belize. The bail conditions require that Flores attend the preliminary inquiry, as well as the High Court arraignment and trial when they are scheduled.

Island female charged with Possession of Controlled Drugs avoids jail time

Despite being arrested and charged with Possession of Controlled Drugs with intent to supply, 38-year-old Osiris Yamileth Tzul avoided jail time after she was arraigned at the San Pedro Magistrate Court and served with a ‘3 Year Suspended Sentence.’ This means she was free to go home under the condition that for the next three years, she must not commit any drug-related offense or otherwise face three years in jail.

Reports of sexual assault on the rise in San Pedro Town

Over the past months, reports about sexual offenses seemed to have slightly increased in San Pedro Town. Three recent events have raised many eyebrows on the island due to their nature. These unpleasant incidents involve incest, the rape of a minor, and a former teacher who was charged with three counts of sexual assault.

Costa Rican national remanded for defrauding Belizean beach resorts

San Pedro Police formally charged 39-year-old Costa Rican national Christopher D'Angelo Alvarado Marchena for "Obtaining Property by Deception, Possession of Counterfeit Currency, and Possession of Controlled Drugs." Marchena was detained after being accused of orchestrating a fraudulent scheme that defrauded two high-end Belizean beach resorts of thousands of dollars in unpaid services.

Four arraigned in San Pedro for Irvin Martinez’ murder

On Monday, December 18th, David Gill Lambey, 18, was arraigned at the San Pedro Magistrate Court for the Murder of islander Irvin Enderson Martinez. Martinez, a 28-year-old bartender, was fatally stabbed on Friday, December 15th, after an altercation with Lambey and three other individuals. The other three persons, 22-year-old Zephania Mariano, Zechariah Mariano, and 19-year-old Keyron Lambey, were also arraigned for the charge of Aggravated Assault. They were all remanded to the Kolbe Foundation- Belize Central Prison until their next court date on February 28, 2024.

Jasmine Hartin is back in San Pedro’s court; case on Common Assault and Drug Possession adjourned

On Wednesday, November 22nd, Canadian National Jasmine Hartin returned to San Pedro’s Magistrate Court for the trial on the charges of Drug Possession and Common Assault. Hartin and her attorney, Arthur Saldivar, hoped to conclude these two legal matters. However, they were adjourned to January 26, 2024, to be heard at the Belize City Magistrate Court.
