San Pedro Pirates lands narrow win over Port Layola

The island's premier football team, the San Pedro Pirates, landed a 3-2 victory over Port Layola after a home game held over the weekend at the Ambergris Stadium. The game marked the tenth week of the Opening Season of the Premier League of Belize.

San Pedro Pirates FC to face Altitude FC today after initial game postponed over the weekend

The island’s premier football team, the San Pedro Pirates FC, has traveled to Independence Village in southern Belize on Wednesday, September 28th, to face Altitude FC following the postponement of the game on Saturday. The team’s management saw some inconveniences with the game scheduled for the middle of the week as some players could not travel with the team. Not only does it leave the team with fewer players, but the island team plays this Saturday, October 1st, at home in San Pedro.

San Pedro Pirates F.C. prepares for FFB Top League’s closing season

The island’s football club, the San Pedro Pirates, is gearing up for the closing season of the Football Federation of Belize’s (FFB) tournament- FFB Top League set to start February 5, 2022. The island’s squad is scheduled to play against Caesar Ridge F.C. on February 6th at the Beaton Isidoro Stadium in the capital city of Belmopan.  Due to the pandemic, the tournament will host all games in Belmopan with six participating teams- San Pedro Pirates FC, Altitude FC, Caesar Ridge FC, Garden City FC, Verdes FC, and Wagiya SC.

San Pedro mourns the death of Elder Alvarez

The community of San Pedro Town is mourning the death of a beloved resident, Elder Alvarez, who passed away on Monday, November 1st. Alvarez affectionately considered the ‘light of the island,’ worked for three decades with Belize Electricity Limited (BEL), and always ensured that island electricity issues were quickly addressed, whether due to natural disasters or technical hurdles. He will be dearly missed, and The San Pedro Sun extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends.

San Pedro Pirates FC beat Garden City FC at opening of FFB Top League tournament

With the ease in COVID-19 regulations pertaining to sports, the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) officiated three matches over the weekend in its national tournament dubbed FFB Top League. San Pedro Pirates FC traveled to the capital city of Belmopan on Sunday, October 24th, and grabbed its first three points in the competition after defeating Garden City FC 2-0.

New national football competition begins this weekend; SP Pirates FC plays home away game

After it was declared by the Ministry of Health and Wellness that contact sports would be allowed under the condition that every player is vaccinated against COVID-19, the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) announced on Monday, October 18th the beginning of the FFB Top League Tournament 2021-2022. The tournament is set to start on Saturday, October 23rd with the participation of the following football clubs- San Pedro Pirates FC, Altitude FC, Caesar Ridge FC, Garden City FC, Verdes FC, and Wagiya SC.

For well over a year, football competitions in Belize have been forbidden due to the COVID-19 regulations. However, the wait could soon end as the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) announced its intentions to resume sporting activities in the country.
