On Friday, May 30th, the San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School hosted an education expo showcasing a variety of island initiatives, local businesses, and engaging activities for students. The event featured booths from financial institutions, environmental organizations, and government agencies. Held from 9AM to midday, the fair welcomed students from various class levels, who interacted with exhibitors and participated in hands-on learning experiences.

The Hol Chan Marine Reserve hosted its Annual Primary School Trivia Competition on May 14th at the Lion’s Den. A highlight of the much-anticipated Reef Fest, the event aimed to foster environmental awareness and stewardship among young students. It drew enthusiastic participation from six local primary schools across Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker.

San Pedro High School awarded second place at Band Fest 2025 competition

The San Pedro High School (SPHS) returned to the island as sub-champions of the Belize Band Fest 2025, held on Saturday, April 12th, in Independence Village, southern Belize. The island’s marching band performed stunningly while defending their championship title. However, at the end of the event, the judges declared Independence High School (IHS) the top marching band of this year's competition.

San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School observes Literacy Day

Under the theme “Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace,” International Literacy Day 2024 was observed across Belize. On Friday, September 13th, the San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School celebrated the annual event with education and fun activities that engaged their students in literature, drama, languages, patriotism, and folklore.

San Pedro High School and the Roman Catholic Primary School dominate Band Fest 2024

San Pedro Town was again well represented at the Belize Band Fest 2024 held in Benque Viejo Del Carmen in the Cayo District on Saturday, July 20th. This year, the San Pedro High School (SPHS) and San Pedro Roman Catholic (RC) Primary School brought home two of the top three trophies. They made history with SPHS winning first place and the RC Primary School securing third place in the annual event that sees the best drum and marching bands from the country and abroad.

The Bonefish and Tarpon Trust conducts educational presentations at primary schools in the Cayes

On Wednesday, June 5th, the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust (BTT) wrapped up a series of presentations at several San Pedro Town and Caye Caulker primary schools. The science-based organization, committed to conserving flats, fisheries, and habitats, conducted educational sessions with students from Infant Two and Standard One classes. The sessions focused on protecting fisheries habitats and the life cycle of tarpon, a protected fish species in Belize.

San Pedro Catholic Church plans to relocate primary school

The San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School (SPRCS) is the oldest school on the island, opening in the 1920s in the center of town. However, its current location is no longer suitable for the hundreds of students it serves, especially given the traffic congestion plaguing the town, with roads wrapping around the school's walls. As a solution, there are plans to relocate the school to the southern part of town in the coming years.

Municipal Elections are underway in San Pedro; the electorate encouraged to come out and vote

The 2024 Municipal Elections are currently taking place across the nation, and voters in San Pedro Town have been turning up steadily to cast their votes. Polling stations on the island have been open since 7AM and are located at the San Pedro High School, San Pedro Junior College, and the San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School. San Pedro is one of the most significant municipalities in the country and is a leading commercial center in Belize. Since the last municipal elections held in 2021, registered voters have increased from 7,983 to 8,704. The unofficial turnout report at midday, as per the Belize Elections and Boundaries, was 2,229.
