Deann Laing is the 79th Queen of the Bay; Miss Caye Caulker places second
During the 79th Queen of the Bay Pageant for 2024-2025, Deann Laing, aged twenty-two and representing the Rural Belize District, emerged as the winner from a diverse group of eleven contestants. The prestigious pageant, held on Saturday, August 24th, at the Belize Civic Center, was a true representation of the nation, with participants from around the country. The Caye’s were well represented, with Caye Caulker candidate Lupita Aldana securing the second position. Representing Ambergris Caye was Nai Figueroa, who gracefully represented San Pedro in the pageant.

September is the month of Belize's patriotic celebrations and one of the best times of the year to experience the local culture and traditions. As the anticipated time of the year is fast approaching, on Wednesday, June 5th, 'A Nation Proud and Free: Belize @ 43' was revealed as the official theme for this year's September Celebrations.

San Pedranos celebrate Belize’s 42nd Independence Day with patriotism, love, and a big party
When celebrating Belize’s national holidays, Belizeans know how to make every year’s celebrations unique, colorful, energetic, and patriotic. Belize’s Independence Day on September 21st is the culmination of patriotic celebrations with a national party highlighting all things Belizean. San Pedro Town held another memorable celebration with a massive and fun parade involving students, citizens, carnival dancers, live performances, and visiting international DJ Osocity.

The National Honours and Awards Act, 1991, provides that each year on Independence Day, or at such other times as may be deemed expedient, honours and awards may be conferred on persons, living or deceased, who have rendered outstanding and meritorious service to Belize, or who have distinguished themselves in other endeavours worthy of national recognition.

Island students show their love for the country during Children’s Rally 2023
On Friday, September 15th, students across Belize participated in the annual Children's Rally. In San Pedro Town, the patriotic event, part of the September Celebrations, the San Pedro Roman Catholic School (SPRCS) students participate in a colorful parade through the main streets. The San Pedro High School (SPHS) student body and upper-division students from other schools across the island enjoyed activities at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium.

San Pedro welcomes the September Celebrations with a flag-raising ceremony and street festival
San Pedro Town, one of the most patriotic municipalities in Belize, welcomed the month of September with the annual flag-raising ceremony that marks the beginning of a celebration that will honor many key events throughout the month, culminating with Independence Day. The beginning of the September Celebrations on the island also included the first-ever San Pedro Street Fest held on Barrier Reef Drive.

Children’s Rally brings colorful and patriotic parade to San Pedro Town
For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, students in San Pedro Town, their teachers, and other island community members celebrated a traditional Children's Rally. The event, held countrywide, saw hundreds of students marching through the central streets of San Pedro, dressed in patriotic colors and proudly waving Belizean flags.

Annual Flag-Raising ceremony kicks off September Celebrations in San Pedro
September is here, bringing with it the patriotic celebrations commemorating the 224th anniversary of the Battle of St. George’s Caye and Belize’s 41st Independence Day celebration. The patriotic month was welcomed across the country with the annual flag-raising ceremony. In San Pedro Town the San Pedro Town Council held the annual ceremony at 6AM on September 1st at Central Park. The event saw the presence of local authorities and proud Belizeans who together sang the national anthem while the flag was hoisted.
