Miss San Pedro to highlight Women’s Month with 5K/10K run; registration open
March is celebrated as Women’s Month in Belize, and events are held nationwide. In San Pedro Town, different activities take place to inspire and empower women. Miss San Pedro Mariel Calderon is organizing a 5K and 10K run through her foundation Empow.Her and partner, SHINE, are set for March 23rd. In-person registrations for the event,’ Stride for Change: Celebrating Her,’ took place on Saturday, March 16th, and participants had a free paint session.

Women in Business course graduates 11 island women
A group of 11 young ladies were recognized with their certificates of completion at the Hidden Treasure restaurant on Friday, March 24th, after successfully participating in a training dubbed 'Women in Business.' The preparation, which initially was to last for two weeks, ended up extending to three weeks. During this time, the participants learned marketing skills, practiced good work ethics, and learned the essentials needed to start a small business.

March is Women's Month worldwide, and in San Pedro Town, several activities are held to celebrate the special occasion. Some events ranged from sports to special gatherings in which women's efforts and contributions to the island community were highlighted.

On Monday, February 27th, a two-week training named 'Women in Business' was officially launched at the Hidden Treasure restaurant. The training will see several young ladies learning marketing skills, how to start a small business, and practice work ethics.

Former island beauty ambassador Michelle Nuñez graduates with honors
Michelle Estrella Nuñez successfully completed a Bachelors's Degree in Social Work and graduated Cum Laude from the University of Belize on October 23rd. The former island beauty ambassador shared her joy of achieving such a milestone in her education, driven by her passion for empowering young girls in San Pedro Town.

Colleen’s Kitchen at San Pedro Food Bank distributes recycled bags
Every day, Colleen’s Kitchen at the San Pedro Food Bank at Hope Haven provides meals to underprivileged children and adults. This program is made possible thanks to local restaurateurs who keep the initiative alive. To further engage the local community and even visitors in contributing to the worthy cause, recycled cotton bags are being distributed at different convenience stores. In exchange, patrons (visitors) are asked to kindly donate any grocery items upon departure that can be used by the food bank at Hope Haven, San Pedro’s Children’s Home and Community outreach Center located on Lion Street, across from the Maya Island Air.

2nd Annual Raise Me Up Masquerade Party a success!
Island residents brought the glam at Raise Me Up 2nd Annual Masquerade Party on May 19th, raising funds through silent auctions, casino games and more to benefit Hope Haven, The SHINE Center, Raise Me Up, The Literacy Program, San Pedro Kids Club, Colleen’s Kitchen at San Pedro Food Bank and ACES.
