Graduation Season 2025 Kicks Off with The Island Academy Ceremony
Graduation season 2025 is now in full swing, and schools across the island and the country are preparing to celebrate their students' academic milestones. On May 30, 2023, The Island Academy marked a special occasion with its 2025 graduation ceremony, held at its campus in Mahogany Bay Village. Students, faculty, families, and friends gathered to honor the achievements of this year’s graduating class of 13 students: Robert Gabourel, Sianna Manuel, Clarisse Polack, Dylan Guerrero, John Fuson, Alyssa Gabourel, Jad Obied, Sophia Castaneda, Eliza Card, Christopher Paz, Ava Guerrero, Hourieh Harmouche, and Zander Rodas.

Azaliah Ortega wins Hol Chan’s Annual Primary School Trivia Competition
The Hol Chan Marine Reserve hosted its Annual Primary School Trivia Competition on May 14th at the Lion’s Den. A highlight of the much-anticipated Reef Fest, the event aimed to foster environmental awareness and stewardship among young students. It drew enthusiastic participation from six local primary schools across Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker.

2025 Indoor Volleyball Tournament coming to a close
On Sunday, May 4th, semi-finals and finals matches for the Indoor Volleyball Tournament were held at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium, showcasing a vibrant display of local talent across various age groups. The event, organized by Erick Santizo, President of the San Pedro Volleyball Association, began at 4PM and featured competitive matches in categories including under-13 males and females, under-15 males and females, and senior males and females.

The Island Academy to offer High School level education
This year, TIA is embarking on a new chapter by introducing its first form of high school, set to commence in August. This development is driven by a generous donation aimed at addressing the lack of resources for high school students in the area. Although the San Pedro High School is located on the island, many students commute to Belize City, highlighting the need for local educational facilities. The TIA high school will align its curriculum with existing standards while incorporating essential elements such as ethics and life skills.

Estelle Crawford from Caye Caulker wins the annual Spelling Bee Zone Competition
The annual Bowen and Bowen Spelling Bee Belize District Zone Eliminations once again featured a Caye Caulker Roman Catholic School student taking first place in the primary school competition. Estelle Crawford, a 10-year-old standard four student with autism, impressed organizers and judges, securing the top position on Thursday, February 20th. Naila Padilla from The Island Academy in San Pedro earned second place, while Jerome Sho from Holy Cross Anglican Primary School came in third.

San Pedro hosts the 2024 Belize Rural Primary School Football Tournament
The Ambergris Stadium hosted the 2024 Belize Rural Primary School Football Tournament for Zone 5, which featured five female teams and seven male teams. The participating primary schools included San Pedro Roman Catholic (RC) School, Caye Caulker RC School, The Island Academy, New Horizon Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) School, Holy Cross Anglican School, Ambergris Caye Elementary School, and Isla Bonita Elementary School.

San Pedro’s Annual Indoor Volleyball Tournament begins
The 8th annual San Pedro Indoor Volleyball Tournament opened at the San Pedro High School Auditorium on Sunday, September 22nd, from 4 to 7PM. Coach Erick Santizo organized the event, which featured a diverse group of participants, including five female teams under 15, six male teams under 15, four COED teams, three female senior teams, and four male senior teams. This ensured that everyone had a chance to participate and showcase their skills.

San Pedro students display patriotism at annual Children’s Rally
Students from six primary schools joined San Pedro High School (SPHS) on Friday, September 20th, to celebrate the annual Children’s Rally at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium. The Children’s Rally is held countrywide as part of the September Celebrations to promote patriotism among Belizean children. This year's theme was “A Nation Proud and Free: Belize at 43.” The event included motivational speeches, patriotic poems and dramas, and a special performance by Chelsy Castro, the national KTV (Karaoke) Singing Competition winner.
