The Island Academy heads to Finals in the National Basketball Championship
The female basketball team of The Island Academy (TIA) is set to participate in the Primary School National Basketball Championship in Punta Gorda, Toledo. The island girls earned their spot in the Nationals after winning the District Championship on Thursday, February 15th, in Belize City. The San Pedro Roman Catholic School basketball team represented the island in the boy’s category but unfortunately got knocked out early in the tournament.

The Island Academy ends 2023 with a spectacular Christmas Pageant
On Wednesday, December 13th, The Island Academy (TIA) delighted parents, friends, and special guests with their annual Christmas show. The traditional holiday pageant saw their junior and senior students performing, as usual, to perfection, a creative show dubbed this year, "Star Bucks!" The Christmas musical kept everyone smiling with the creative and fun performances.

Graduation season 2023 has begun; TIA holds graduation ceremony
Schools across the island are gearing up for an exciting 2023 graduation season. The Island Academy (TIA) opened the 2023 celebratory season, with seven students graduating Standard Six (eighth grade) on Friday, June 2nd. Ethan Guerrero, Carlos Nuñez, Sahara Jones, Charlie Stewart, Frank Vandy, Briani Gongora, and Toby Oakley marched to the tune of Pomp and Circumstance, enjoyed a morning of speeches and awards, before receiving their primary school certificates. Family and friends gathered at the TIA campus at Mahogany Bay Village south of San Pedro Town to witness and celebrate the students’ accomplishments.

Island Academy girls and St. John Vianney boys win Belize District Basketball Championships
The Island Academy girls and St. John Vianney Roman Catholic School boys won the Belize District Primary Schools Basketball Championships organized by the National Sports Council at the Belize Civic Center on Tuesday, April 16.

ACES’ Wesley Padilla wins annual Spelling Bee Zone Eliminations
On Friday, February 3rd, the annual Bowen and Bowen Spelling Bee Belize District Zone Eliminations were held at the Sagebrush Church auditorium. Participating schools included Holy Cross Anglican School, Isla Bonita Elementary School, New Horizon Seventh Day Adventist (SDA), San Pedro Roman Catholic School, The Island Academy (TIA), and Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES). Three topped the spelling competition. In third place was TIA’s Mille Fuson, followed by New Horizon SDA’s Valarie Najarro, and in first place ACES’ Wesley Padilla.

The Island Academy lights up the season with their annual Christmas Pageant
After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the creative and cheerful Christmas show was back at The Island Academy (TIA). On Wednesday, December 14th, at their new home in Mahogany Bay Village south of San Pedro Town, the Christmas pageant saw junior and senior students performing a well-put-together show delighting parents and friends in attendance.

New semester starts with hybrid learning: schools yet to be fully re-opened
Several schools across Belize re-opened on Monday, January 10th to a hybrid learning system. The system sees some students taking online classes, while others attend face-to-face sessions. The re-opening (particularly in governmental institutions) is considered imperative by the current government, but in San Pedro Town, the only schools offering in-person classes, since last year, are reportedly the private institutions, while governmental institutions still prepare to offer physical teaching.

The Island Academy relocates to its new home
When the new school year begins at The Island Academy (TIA) in San Pedro Town, they will welcome its students at a new location. The new home of the private, non-profit primary school will be at a property within the Mahogany Bay Village development located south of downtown San Pedro.
