Islander Jazelie ‘Jaz’ Azueta organized a teen and women’s self-defence seminar on March 15th in collaboration with Martin Dawson of Dawson’s Pit Fighters. The session taught participants physical techniques to help them protect themselves if attacked.

Female Police Officers Honored at Church Service to Mark Women’s Month
Female police officers from San Pedro and Caye Caulker were recognized during a special church service on Sunday, March 1st, as part of activities celebrating Women’s Month. The San Pedro Police Force attended the 10AM mass at the San Pedro Roman Catholic Church, which was celebrated by Fr. Eduardo Montemayor.

Caye Caftans Celebrates Women’s Month with Donation to Female Police Officers
On March 3rd, Caye Caftans donated clothing to all female officers stationed at the San Pedro Police Station in Belize in honor of Women’s Month. The officers visited the Caye Caftans store in San Pedro, where they could select outfits of their choice. On-site seamstresses were also available to make any necessary alterations.

A large number of runners of all ages participated in the annual Stride for Change 5K and 10K run, which aims to empower women, promote fitness, and foster a sense of competition. The event highlights the efforts and contributions of women in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, showcasing their various talents that enhance the island community each day.

This year, the women of the Belize Police Department participated in the celebrations by joining forces to clean and paint the Flamboyant Park located in the San Pablo subdivision of San Pedro Town.

Tracy Panton elected Belize’s First Female Leader of Opposition
In a historic moment for Belizean politics, Tracy Panton became the nation’s first female Leader of the Opposition on March 14, 2025, coinciding with Women’s Month. Panton, a member of the United Democratic Party (UDP) who has represented the Albert constituency since 2015, ascended to this role after her faction defeated former opposition leader Shyne Barrow in the Mesopotamia constituency. Her election marks a significant shift toward greater gender representation in Belize’s traditionally male-dominated political landscape.

San Pedro Town celebrated the worldwide recognition of women on March 2nd with a special mass at the San Pedro Roman Catholic church. March is recognized as Women's Month globally, and various activities are organized to honor and appreciate women's contributions to society. On the island, the female members of the San Pedro Police Formation and their commanders attended the church service, where other residents and community leaders joined them.
