Women’s Month starts with a church service for San Pedro Policewomen

March is Women's Month worldwide, and Belize is no exception. Several activities are organized to recognize and appreciate the contributions of women to society, and in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, the local police formation kicked the month off by attending a church service on Sunday, March 3rd, at the Roman Catholic Church in their honor.

Women’s Month celebrated in March; Women and Girls Empowerment workshop organized in San Pedro

Belize started celebrating Women’s Day in the 1970s and now observes March as Women’s Month. The aim is to celebrate women’s achievements, empower them, and combat gender bias while promoting awareness and equality. This year Women’s Month is being celebrated under the team “Inspire Inclusion, Count Her In” and will take a holistic approach towards women and girls, focusing on their social, economic, cultural, and political achievements.

Women’s month events highlight island women

March is Women's Month worldwide, and in San Pedro Town, several activities are held to celebrate the special occasion. Some events ranged from sports to special gatherings in which women's efforts and contributions to the island community were highlighted.

Women’s Month: Barbados PM Mia Mottley sends message to Belize’s women police officers

When the prime minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, visited San Pedro Town for the 33rd inter-sessional conference meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM early in March, she was impressed with the genuine and warm hospitality of Belizeans. On the occasion of women’s month, Mottley, an iconic Caribbean leader, addressed the women of the Belize Police Department, highlighting the experience with Belmopan City Sergeant Lisa Jones, whose conduct as her close protection officer during the CARICOM conference was deemed exemplary.

San Pedro honors ten amazing women with the distinction of ‘Champions of Change’

While over the weekend, many were focusing on the royal visit by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Belize, on Saturday, March 19th, the San Pedro Town Council and Hope Haven Belize honored ten outstanding island women for their significant contributions to the community. The special award ceremony was in honor of Women's Month and dubbed 'Champions of Change.'

Jazelie ‘Jaz’ Azueta hosts Women Self Defense classes

In honor of Women's Month, on Saturday, March 27th, several ladies in San Pedro Town participated in a Women's Self-Defence program organized by islander Jazelie 'Jaz' Azueta. The event included collaboration from Martin Dawson of Dawson's Pit Fighters, athlete and islander Kent 'Bob' Gabourel, and Captain Shark's Belize.

San Pedro female police constables welcome women’s month 2020 with a church service

As part of women’s month 2020, the female constables of the San Pedro Police Formation began the month in their honour by attending the church services at the island’s Catholic Church on Sunday, March 1st.
