Placencia Municipal Airport rehabilitation completed

The Placencia Municipal Airport in southern Belize has reopened after undergoing renovations. An official inauguration of the rehabilitated airstrip will take place on Friday, December 4th, which now counts with a 2,775-foot long by 40-foot wide runway.
In addition, the airstrip load average bearing shoulders are 10 feet wide on each side. The refurbished airport counts with essential thermoplastic markings and a modern lighting system in compliance with ICAO standards. The completion of the project includes proper drainage, security fencing, and a shore protection system to complement the runway.
The lighting system can now facilitate later flights on a daily basis as well as emergency medivac flights to and from the Placencia. The successful renovation of this aerodrome is expected to enhance the air traffic into Placencia and by extension southern Belize.
The Minister of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation Honourable Andre Perez shared shared some remarks on the completion of the airport rehabilitation. “As an up-and-coming tourism hub in the Jewel, we look forward to increasing the carrying capacity and to increase the traveler experience by providing a safe and modern airport for our Placencia residents and southern Belize,” said Perez.
This project is considered a remarkable milestone for tourism in southern Belize. The Placencia Municipal Airport is one of the busiest runways in the country accommodating thousands of visitors and residents every year.
