Belize’s tourism sector has kicked off 2026 with consistent performance, recording 187,290 overnight visitor arrivals between January and March. According to preliminary data from the Belize Tourism Board, arrivals showed steady growth over the three-month period, increasing from 59,164 in January to 59,231 in February, and reaching 68,895 in March.
March’s performance marked a notable improvement, reflecting a 5.7% increase compared to the same month in 2025. The Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) remained the country’s primary point of entry, accounting for approximately 80.7% of all overnight arrivals in March. Land borders and seaports contributed smaller shares, with the Belize Western Border Station and northern border crossings continuing to support regional travel.
The United States remained Belize’s dominant source market, representing roughly 70% of overnight arrivals in March alone. Other contributing markets included Europe, Canada, Mexico, and smaller segments from South America and other regions. The sustained presence of U.S. travelers continues to anchor Belize’s tourism performance.
Leisure travel remained the primary driver of arrivals, supported by smaller segments such as business travelers, Belizeans living abroad, and visitors traveling for education, health, or religious purposes. The consistent influx reflects ongoing demand for Belize’s diverse tourism product, from the Cayes to inland destinations such as the Cayo District.
Compared with 2025, the figures show modest but positive growth, indicating continued recovery and stabilization following the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic. The gradual increase in arrivals suggests that Belize has maintained its appeal as a safe and attractive destination within the region.
Data also indicates a balanced distribution of visitors across multiple entry points and destinations, supporting tourism activity countrywide. Industry stakeholders remain optimistic that continued marketing efforts and strong performance from key markets will sustain this upward trend into the next quarter.
