Belize is scheduled to receive its first direct flights from Europe in December 2027, with Discover Airlines connecting Frankfurt, Germany, to Belize City. The seasonal service will operate twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, from December through April.
The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) announced the new route on Tuesday, October 20, confirming that the inaugural flight is scheduled for December 16, 2027. According to the BTB, the service will coincide with Belize’s dry season and Europe’s winter travel period.
At an official signing ceremony with Discover Airlines in Germany, Minister of Tourism, Youth, Sports, and Diaspora Relations, Honorable Anthony Mahler, said the route supports Belize’s efforts to diversify its tourism source markets and expand international air connections.
“The introduction of this new service is of strategic importance to Belize’s tourism industry as we continue to diversify our source markets and expand international air connectivity,” Mahler said. “Strengthening our presence in Europe is a key priority, and this new connection from Frankfurt opens opportunities to attract more visitors from Germany and across the region, while making it easier for travelers to experience the best of Belize, from our world-renowned Barrier Reef and pristine islands to our lush rainforests, ancient Maya sites, and rich cultural heritage.”
Mahler’s delegation included Tourism Director Evan Tillett. The new route is expected to provide a gateway for travelers from Germany and connections to other European markets.
Tourism stakeholders in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, welcomed the announcement, anticipating increased bookings during the 2027–2028 high season. Several hotels and local airlines have shared the news.
Discover Airlines, the Lufthansa Group’s German leisure airline, began operating in the summer of 2021 and provides services from Frankfurt and Munich. The BTB said it will work with the airline and tourism industry partners to strengthen Belize’s presence in Europe and increase visitation from the region.
