Cruise Ship tourism returns to Belize
Belize’s tourism continues to grow, and today, Wednesday, July 7th, the country welcomed the first cruise ship with passengers in Belize City. It has been well over a year since cruise tourism came to a halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The arrival of the Carnival Cruise Line vessel called the Carnival Vista brought life to the Fort Street Tourism Village after being dormant for months.

WESTJET set to Resume Flights to Belize During Tourism High Season
The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) is pleased to announce that WestJet is set to resume flights from Toronto and Calgary, Canada later this year. WestJet will offer non-stop seasonal flights to Belize from Toronto and Calgary during Belize’s tourism industry’s high season, starting November.

Slow tourist activity at the now-open land borders; no cases of COVID-19 detected
Against the advice of several health officials (doctors), the Government of Belize (GOB) reopened its land borders with Mexico and Guatemala on Monday, May 31st. The reopening of these borders only allows tourists to enter Belize. The current flow at both borders has seen an average of ten travelers per day, and no one has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.

Land borders to reopen at the end of May; sea entry remain closed
After more than a year, the Government of Belize will reopen its land borders to welcome foreign tourists. The anticipated reopening will occur in a phased approach, and tourists must be pre-booked with a Gold Standard hotel. The western border with Guatemala and the northern border with Mexico set to reopen on May 31st, while the sea borders in Punta Gorda Town and San Pedro Town will start operating at a different date to be announced.

Alaska Airlines announces service to Belize
Another international air carrier has announced that it will add Belize to its travel options. On Wednesday, May 12th, Alaska Airlines said they would soon start offering a non-stop flight to Belize from the west coast in the United States of America. Tickets are set to go on sale in June 2021 with full flight schedules.

The protocols outline the necessary adjustments and adaptations to be undertaken at each step of the cruise cycle - from home port, to destination and return.
