The hunt is always on for the quintessential island watering hole. The ideal island bar would naturally, include an open air thatched roof building, preferably on the beach, with views of the clear blue sea like no other. Drinks should be refreshing and served up by your new best friend (aka an awesome bartender), and food should be crispy, mouthwatering, flavorful and just this side of sinful. There’s a place like that just north of the bridge – and its name is the Palapa Bar.
Owners Scott and Jodie Harnish have created an ambiance of fun and playful, with seriously good eats and a rum punch that will knock your socks off. The Palapa Bar is located at the end of the pier over turquoise water, and surrounded by all that sea, it’s impossible to resist the urge to jump right in. If you arrive by water ferry, the ride over takes no more than seven minutes. Once you set foot on the location, the options are endless. Do you sit at the picnic table and get some drinks, lay your towel and blissfully chill out? Do you choose the chair that’s positioned just-so, to catch some sunrays, but also set to take full advantage of that tropical breeze that seems to blow endlessly? The floating inner tubes have been set out in their water corral, and they look lonely; maybe you should jump right in and float on one of them, picking and choosing till you find your sweet spot. Your choice.
