Wolfe’s Woofers: Organic Vegetables

Share

Dennis-Wolfe-Wolfes-Woofers“Hey, Grandpa. Are you going to the store?” Davin asked.

“Yeah,” I said. “Do you want to go?”

“Sure.”

“Ask your mom. I’ll wait here in the cart for you.”

“She says no,” Davin told me when he came back out. “She says you always buy me Coke and candy and she doesn’t want me eating that.”

“I’ll bring you something good,” I told him as I drove away. Instead of going to the store I drove on down to the fruit and vegetable market. Melody was right about the soft drinks and candy. I decided to buy Davin some bananas and apples. Richard Cartwright arrived at the fruit stand just as I did.

“Hey. What’s up?” he asked.

“I’m eating healthy today,” I told him. “I’m buying some fruit for me and Davin.”

“I’m looking for healthy stuff, too,” he said. “Vicky is on one of her health kicks.”

“What can I get for you?” the lady from the market asked me.

“You can go ahead and take care of him,” I said, indicating Richard. “I’m just going to pick out some bananas from this table.”

“Si, señor?” she said to Richard. “What would you like?”

“I’m looking for some organic vegetables,” he said.

“Organ like for make the music in church?”

“No,” Richard laughed. “I want vegetables that are grown organically.”

“I never hear of vegetables to make music.”

“You don’t understand,” Richard said. “I want organically grown vegetables.”

“Oh, you mean like vegetables with organs? Organs like heart, liver, maybe lungs? I never hear of vegetables with organs like that.”

“Hold on,” Richard said. “Let me explain it better. I’m getting these vegetables for my wife. Have they been sprayed with any poisonous chemicals?”

“Oh, no señor!” she said. “You’ll have to do that yourself.”
