Wolfe’s Woofer: The Operation

Share

Dennis-Wolfe-Wolfes-Woofers“Mr. Dennis, I need one big favor of you.”
“Sure, Lupe. Anything you want.”
Lupe is the wife of Nacho, who has helped me with some construction projects and a lot of other work over the years.
“The problem is with my marido, Ignacio.”
“Uh-oh,” I said. “What has Nacho been up to now?”
“Is a problem I don’t like to talk about because it is almost improper,” she said. “It concerns our marital relations.”
“What about the relations?” I asked. “You can tell me.”
“With me and Nacho they always been plenty good.”
“I believe you,” I said. “After all you do have seven children.”
“Eight months ago he comes to me and tells me he has to go to the big medical clinic in Belize City for an operation.”
“What kind of operation?”
“He don’t tell me. He say he needed this operation for a long time. He set everything up with Social Security and he went.”
“But,” she continued, “Since then our relations have gone to nothing. He is not interested in me or in having any more babies.”
“What do you want me to do about it?”
“Next time you are in Belize City I wanted you to talk to the doctor and try to find out what kind of operation he had. Maybe I can get a lawyer and sue the clinic.”
When I went to the hospital I looked up the doctor at the clinic.
“Oh, yes,” the doctor said. “Mr. Ignacio Torres. I remember him well. What was your question Mr. Wolfe?”
“His wife claims that since the operation Nacho has lost all interest in any marital relations with her. I wanted to find out what kind of operation he had.”
The doctor said, “He came in to have some cataracts removed from his eyes. That poor man was nearly blind.”
