Vaccines from the UK arrive in Belize
On Tuesday evening, August 3rd, 42,000 doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine donated by the United Kingdom (UK) arrived in Belize. The vaccines will be used to continue helping the country’s effort to fight the COVID-19 virus.

MOHW Commemorates World Breastfeeding Week
The Ministry of Health & Wellness joins the international community this week to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week from August 1 to 7. This year’s theme is “Protect Breastfeeding: A Shared Responsibility.” It is a call on all to protect a mother and baby’s right to breastfeeding and to view it as a shared responsibility among the health system, the community, the workplace and the home.

New COVID-19 regulations starting August 1st; 9PM curfew to be implemented
A new set of rules will go into effect on Sunday, August 1st, concerning COVID-19 precautions. In a virtual press conference on Friday, July 30th, Minister of Health and Wellness the Honourable Michel Chebat listed out some of the public health measures such as a 9PM to 4AM curfew, a COVID Enforcement Unit, the definition of frontline workers, and penalties to any person issuing/selling fraudulent vaccination cards.

COVID-19 claims another San Pedrano; cases on the rise
On Wednesday, July 28th, it was reported that a San Pedrano passed away at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) due to complications caused by COVID-19. Health authorities had previously said that some islanders were hospitalized at the KHMH and were confirmed to be unvaccinated. As cases continue to rise, island residents are reminded that vaccination is the only way to fight the disease effectively and are implored to get tested if there are suspicions of being infected.

US Healthcare Professionals Volunteer at SP COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic
While on holiday with their families on Ambergris Caye, Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Negar Saidi-Johnson and Cardiologist Dr. Jorge Alvarez, both who work at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, USA, generously donated their time to volunteer at the MOHW COVID-19 vaccination clinic in San Pedro.

The UK donates 42,000 COVID-19 Vaccines to Belize
Belize is set to receive 42,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine against the COVID-19 virus. This shipment of vaccines for the Jewel is a donation from the Government and people of the United Kingdom (UK). This donation is part of the broader pledge by the UK to donate 100 million doses to developing countries. The vaccines are expected to be delivered by the end of the week.

Announcement of SI No. 80 of 2021
Amendments outlined in the new SI include changes to the curfew hours which will now be from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. daily. Minors are to remain within the confines of private property during the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Castillo’s Hardware donates air conditioning unit to San Pedro’s polyclinic
The dentistry section of the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II received an air conditioner courtesy of Castillo’s Hardware. This part of the polyclinic was without the essential air cooler after their unit was deemed unrepairable.
