COVID-19 Cluster Identified in Santa Cruz Village

The Ministry of Health & Wellness, through its ongoing COVID-19 surveillance, has identified a cluster of COVID-19 cases in Santa Cruz Village, Stann Creek District.

Slow tourist activity at the now-open land borders; no cases of COVID-19 detected

Against the advice of several health officials (doctors), the Government of Belize (GOB) reopened its land borders with Mexico and Guatemala on Monday, May 31st. The reopening of these borders only allows tourists to enter Belize. The current flow at both borders has seen an average of ten travelers per day, and no one has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.

Health and Care Day held in San Pedro

On Friday, June 4th San Pedro Town celebrated Health and Care Day with a fair from 10AM to 4PM at the Honourable Louis Sylvestre sporting complex. The event was the joint efforts of the San Pedro Town Council, San Pedro Lions Club, and the Belize Red Cross San Pedro Branch.

Belize Receives Additional Ventilators from Mexican Government

The Ministry of Health & Wellness received two mechanical ventilators at a handing over ceremony held at the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport on Monday, May 31, 2021. The donation formed part of Mexico’s official COVID-19 pandemic donation to Latin America and the Caribbean under its CELAC Presidency.

On May 31, the Ministry of Health & Wellness joins the global community in observing World No Tobacco Day under the theme “Commit to Quit”.

Members of the Chinese community on the island get their jab of the Sinopharm vaccine

On Tuesday, May 25th, dozens of members from the Chinese community in San Pedro Town made their way to the island’s Lions Den to get their first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine against COVID-19. This is the second vaccine available in Belize besides the Oxford-AstraZeneca, and it has attracted the Chinese community because it is made in their country of origin.

Blood drive held in honor of baby Everlett Sturmberg collects 29 pints

In honor of baby Everlett Sturmberg, the Belize Red Cross-San Pedro branch had a blood drive on Saturday, May 22nd, and collected 29 pints of the vital liquid. The drive took place at the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II. A dollar drive was also conducted by volunteers collecting a total of $213.91.
