San Pedro High School to start face to face classes for at-risk students next week

Starting Monday, December 6th, the San Pedro High School (SPHS) will welcome a portion of its student population for face-to-face classes. On Wednesday, December 1st, the school issued a letter informing parents that only at-risk students will be attending physical instruction while the rest of the student body will continue online learning. The administration of the SPHS said that this is necessary to help students improve their grades and be successful at school.

Ten islanders complete Mandarin language program

Ten successful candidates completed an intensive 6-month course in Mandarin lessons taught by the Feng Chia University of Taiwan and facilitated by the SPTC.

Ministry of Education, Culture, Science & Technology announces Transition to Hybrid Learning

At the beginning of this academic year, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MoECST) postponed the transition to hybrid learning, due to a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases and the absence of approved vaccinations for our students. At the time of that announcement, the Ministry had also pledged to work on reopening some schools for hybrid learning, come October 4th. MoECST is pleased to announce that some schools will be given the Green Light to reopen for hybrid learning beginning on October 4, 2021.

Police Officer is First Recipient of George Cadle Price Scholarship

The Ministry of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform and Galen University are pleased to announce that Mr. Zenubio Coc, Inspector of Police and Commander of Community Policing in the Eastern Division, is the first recipient of the George Cadle Price Scholarship. The scholarship is a new award that honours the memory of one of Belize’s most celebrated, respected and beloved leaders.

Caye Education Foundation to sponsor seven high school students; you can become a donor

As the new school year approaches, the Caye Education Foundation has committed to help seven students with their secondary education for the 2021 school year. CEF provides financial and motivational support for deserving children to attend high school in San Pedro Town and previously assisted ten students through their four-year high school education. This project is possible via fundraising and the support of generous donors. 

MOE says no PSE again this year

The Primary School Examination (PSE) for 2021-2022 is again suspended this year as per the Minister of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology (MOE), the Honourable Francis Fonseca. The minister indicated that there are other plans, like getting students adjusted to the pandemic-style system of learning applied in 2020. These include the absence of the PSE and the Belize Junior Achievement Test (BJAT).

Caye Education Foundation is proud to sponsor ten SPHS graduates, including Valedictorian and others with honors

Over the past four years, ten students attending the San Pedro High School (SPHS) received scholarship support from the island-based Caye Education Foundation (CEF) non-profit organization. The foundation aims to guide and help the students so they could successfully graduate. The efforts turned out very fruitful as this year’s Valedictorian and Salutatorian were among the seven of the ten students that graduated with honors.

The Island Academy relocates to its new home

When the new school year begins at The Island Academy (TIA) in San Pedro Town, they will welcome its students at a new location. The new home of the private, non-profit primary school will be at a property within the Mahogany Bay Village development located south of downtown San Pedro.
