Belize Delegation Concludes Participation at COP28

The 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change was officially closed on December 13. During the negotiations at COP28, the Belize delegation actively contributed to crucial discussions on global climate change mitigation and adaptation actions. Led by Hon. Orlando Habet, Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management, and Dr. Kenrick Williams, CEO in the ministry, the delegation and its lead negotiators, ambassadors Carlos Fuller and Dr. Janine Felson, were instrumental in advancing key negotiations and forging collaborative partnerships at the global climate summit.

Belize Assumes Seats on the Adaptation Fund Board and Technology Executive Committee of UNFCCC

Dr. Kenrick Williams, the Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk Management, has been appointed to the Adaptation Fund Board representing the Latin American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC).

NDA commits BZ$3 million grant from its GCF allocation to PACT

Dr. Osmond Martinez, CEO and the National Designated Authority (NDA) to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment met with Dr. Kenrick Williams, CEO and Chair of the Protect Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) in the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk Management. The aim of the meeting was to discuss funding opportunities for the development of a National Adaptation Plan (NAP) for various sectors including tourism, forestry, land use, and human settlement, etc. As a result, the NDA committed its remaining balance of BZ$3 million grant from its one-time GCF allocation.

CEO Appointed in the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management

The Office of the Prime Minister is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kenrick Williams as the Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management. Dr. Williams holds a doctorate in Natural Resources and Environmental Studies from the National Dong Hwa University in Hualien, Taiwan and a master’s degree in International Environmental Sustainable Development from the National Central University.
