The National Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART) Conference 2022

On June 1, 2022, The National Biodiversity Office, within the Ministry of Sustainable Dev. Climate Change & Disaster Risk Management, in collaboration with the Wildlife Conservation Society, hosted a Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART) Conference under the theme, "Integrating data collection through SMART Technology, Strengthening Belize's Approach to Protected Areas Enforcement".

Belize Celebrates International Day for Biodiversity

Belize, recognized as a world biodiversity hotspot, has ratified the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) since December 30, 1993. Through a network of 113 protected areas countrywide, Belize has successfully maintained over 61% of intact forested lands supporting the protection of approximately 577 species of birds, 163 mammals, 141 species of reptiles and 3,408 species of plants including 613 medicinal plants.

Park Rangers Sworn in as Special Constables

In a small graduation ceremony held on March 24, 2021, at the Shipstern Nature Reserve in Sarteneja Village, Corozal District, Hon. Orlando Habet, Minster of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management, honoured 29 park rangers graduating as special constables.

Training in the Application of Biodiversity Related Laws of Belize

The training is a part of an ongoing series of initiatives being implemented by the Ministry with financial support provided by the Protected Areas Conservation Trust. It was designed to inform its participants of the application of the National Protected Areas Systems Act and other related legislation. Other training in the series will include training in use of SMART Technologies and field navigation.
