Minister of Agriculture and Belize Rural North Area Representative Participate in Belize District Agriculture Field Trip
Hon. Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, and Hon. Marconi Leal, area representative of Belize Rural North, on March 31, 2021, visited selected areas of the Belize District as part of a field trip organized by the Belize District Agriculture Department. The purpose of the field trip was to learn about the farmers and crops grown in the areas as well as exchange experiences, expertise and ideas with the Ministry’s extension service and farmers from other districts.

BELTRAIDE Launches New Female Entrepreneurship Website
The Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) which enables and facilitates innovative and competitive business development is proud to announce the launch of a newly designed mentorship website called Female Entrepreneurship Website. The website is designed primarily for women, as a part of Belize’s first Female Entrepreneurship Program which was inaugurated in May 2019 with support from the Regional Center for the Promotion of Micro and Small Enterprises (CENPROMYPE).

Belize Bank’s parent company takes over Scotiabank
The days of Scotiabank Belize are officially over after Caribbean Investment Holdings Limited, Belize Bank’s parent company, completed the acquisition. On Wednesday, March 31st, throughout the country, teams of workmen were observed taking down the iconic Scotiabank sign. In San Pedro Town, the sign was replaced with a Belize Bank one.

Businesses can face up to a $5,000 fine for violating COVID-19 regulations during Easter
The Honourable Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, warned businesses, such as restaurants, that they could face a $5,000 fine for COVID-19 regulation violations during the Easter weekend. He also advised against social events at hotels and other private accommodations and instead encouraged the Easter Safety Three W’s campaign- Wash hands, Wear your mask, and Watch your distance.

SPTC considers changes to trade license fees; millions not collected in property tax
The San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) is preparing to announce changes in trade license fees. Mayor Gualberto ‘Wally’ Nuñez indicated that their trade licenses assessment revealed that large businesses paid minimal fees, while others paid more. Nuñez added that there are some $12 million in uncollected property tax.
