Change in the Pump Price of Fuel Effective March 25, 2020

The Ministry of Finance announces that on Wednesday, March 25th, the pump price for diesel will decrease by 99 cents from $9.24 to $ 8.25 per gallon. The prices for premium gasoline, regular gasoline, and kerosene will remain unchanged at $10.92, $10.23, and $6.62 per gallon, respectively.

Placencia Airstrip to close temporarily for renovations

On Monday, March 16th, Tropic Air released plans to close the Placencia airstrip for renovations temporarily. The closure will take effect from May 1, 2020, to September 30th. During the closure, the runway will undergo revamping, lengthening, widening, and installing of runway lighting. Tropic Air also released a statement on what changes will be implemented during the airstrip’s closure period.

Combating plastic pollution and sargassum: the Fournier Formula

Canadian tourist Michel Fournier spoke to The San Pedro Sun on Tuesday, February 25th about a unique solution to two problems on the island: plastic pollution and sargassum. It’s his second visit to San Pedro and he’s seen an increase in the garbage buildup around the island and sargassum washing up on the beachfronts. He believes that instead of tackling them as two separate issues, they should be combined. His solution? A solar powered plastic extruder. Currently, solar powered plastic extruders are available but aren’t commercially produced.
