Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine available in San Pedro; Pfizer available for pregnant women
Islanders getting their vaccine against COVID-19 can now request the Johnson & Johnson dose at the vaccination center at the Lions Den on Barrier Reef Drive. Pregnant women are now eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine at the island’s vaccination center as well.

As part of the Smart Health Care Facilities in the Caribbean Project Phase II Project, supported by the United Kingdom Department for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (UK FCDO), the British High Commission and the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) officially handed over the Palm View Center in Belmopan to the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MoHW) and credited the facility as a ‘Smart Health Care’ Facility.

Travelers entering Belize through land borders must be COVID-19 tested at their own expense
The spike in COVID-19 cases in Belize has forced the government to increase preventative measures to contain the importation of the virus into the country by travelers. All visitors entering the country via the land borders on the northern and western official entry points will be administered a COVID-19 test at their own expense. The Ministry of Health and Wellness advised that no external PCR or rapid tests will be accepted.

Through the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), the European Union Directorate-General for International Partnerships (formerly EU-DEVCO) donated a 16-module GeneXpert machine to the Central Medical Laboratory (CML)/Ministry of Health and Wellness (MoHW) as part of the EU-WHO regional project on Health Systems Strengthening of Universal Health Care (UHC).

Belize receives over 130k doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine
The doses were made available through a partnership with UNICEF and the African Union’s African Vaccine Acquisition Trust. Present for the arrival was Dr. Melissa Diaz Musa, Deputy Regional Manager, Central Health Region, on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW), and Ms. Paulett Wade, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, UNICEF Belize.

Employers expected to verify frontline workers are vaccinated
At the end of June, the government announced that by August 1st, most front-line workers should have been vaccinated with at least their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. In the event they are not, these individuals are required to start presenting a negative COVID-19 test every two weeks at their own expense.

San Pedro High School and sixth form students scheduled for Pfizer vaccine
On Saturday, August 28th, the Pfizer vaccine will be available to island students attending high school and sixth form between the ages of 12-17. The vaccines will be administered at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium at the San Pedro High School.
