PAHO/WHO donates Video Laryngoscope to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority (KHMHA) to strengthen the response for patients suffering from COVID-19
To strengthen the clinical management response, specifically for the care of persons with severe COVID-19 and needing intubation, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) donated a video laryngoscope to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority (KHMHA).

After COVID-19: the long-term effects
COVID-19 has not only caused a massive pandemic, destroying economies and killing thousands every day; long after some survivors are declared COVID-free, some remain with long-term effects known as post-COVID syndrome. Patients who have recovered from the virus and continue to experience symptoms have been described as ‘long haulers,’ suffering from long-term health issues to the lungs, heart, and brain.

The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), as part of the continuous support in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic donated 317,770 Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to the Belize Red Cross, Kolbe Foundation Belize Central Prison, Children’s Homes, Residential Homes for the Elderly, Belize Defense Force, Coast Guard, and Ministry of Sustainable Development.

U.S. Embassy Delivers Personal Protective Equipment to Central Medical Lab
On December 22, U.S. Embassy Belmopan delivered personal protective equipment (PPE) to Central Medical Lab (CML) staff in Belize City. The PPE, valued at over $47,500 USD, was donated by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and was initiated by the CDC Central America Regional Team based at U.S. Embassy Guatemala. The PPE was purchased and sourced through a Belizean vendor, Belmopan Medical Laboratory Supplies.

Ministry of Health and Wellness Launches COVID-19 Christmas Campaign
The Ministry of Health and Wellness officially launched its COVID-19 Christmas Campaign on December 17, 2020. The campaign is centered on the theme, “It is better to have a safe Christmas season than to attend a funeral during the holidays,” and aims to sensitize the public on specific behavior changes necessary to reduce the spread of COVID-19, especially during the Christmas season.
