San Pedro Pirates advance to PLB’s semi-finals after 2-2 draw with Progresso

After being postponed twice due to inclement weather, the match between San Pedro Pirates Football Club (FC) and Progresso FC was finally held on Saturday, November 2nd, at the Ambergris Stadium. The action-packed game elicited loud cheers from the crowd as both teams fought fiercely for a win, but neither succeeded. The score remained tied at 2-2 when the final whistle blew. This was enough to get the island boys into the semi-finals of the Premier League of Belize’s (PLB) regular season.

San Pedro’s Catch N Bills are the sub-champions of the 15th Belikin Blue Water Classic

San Pedro’s Catch N Bills team proudly returned to the island with the second-place trophy after competing in this year's Belikin Blue Water Classic fishing tournament. The event took place at Old Belize in Belize City from October 25th to 26th. The island team secured the title of sub-champion in this annual competition and won $15,000 and an original painting by Ernest Garcia.

San Pedro hosts the 2024 Belize Rural Primary School Football Tournament

The Ambergris Stadium hosted the 2024 Belize Rural Primary School Football Tournament for Zone 5, which featured five female teams and seven male teams. The participating primary schools included San Pedro Roman Catholic (RC) School, Caye Caulker RC School, The Island Academy, New Horizon Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) School, Holy Cross Anglican School, Ambergris Caye Elementary School, and Isla Bonita Elementary School.

Levi Contreras tops ‘Run for the Coast’ race

Island runner Jesus "Levi" Contreras, known as "The Flash of Belize," returned home with another first-place medal after winning the Run for the Coast competition held in Belize City on Saturday, October 26th. Contreras completed the 2.75-mile run with an impressive time of 14 minutes and 21 seconds. Other participants from the island included Marissa Guerrero and her son, Ethan.

Belize Men’s National Football Team advances in CONCACAF Nations League

On Tuesday, October 15th, the Belize Men’s National Football Team, the Jaguars, delivered an impressive performance, securing a 3-0 victory over Turks and Caicos in the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Nations League. This win allowed the Jaguars to top Group B of League C, finishing with 12 points. This victory guarantees them a spot in League B for the next competition season, a significant achievement that will see them compete against stronger teams in the region.

Island Football League and Inter-Office competition concludes week three

Over the weekend, the Ambergris Stadium hosted the third week of the Island Football League and the Inter-Office tournament, featuring a series of action-packed games. The leading teams maintained their positions in the top three as both tournaments proceeded to another set of matches this coming weekend.

Levi Contreras, ‘the Yellow Flash of Belize,’ excels at race in southern Belize

On Sunday, October 13th, island runner Jesus ‘Levi’ Contreras (The Flash of Belize) participated in a 10-mile off-road race in Independence Village in the southern Stann Creek District. Contreras, who ran under team Splash Elite Runner, gave his all and crossed the finish line, claiming second place.

Four San Pedro athletes participate in the 2024 CODICADER Games; Belize delegation wins eight medals

On Saturday, October 5th, four students from the island embarked on a journey to El Salvador to represent the island at the 21st Council for Sports and Recreation of Central America (CODICADER) Games. The participating athletes included Brandon Quijano and Izabel Usher, who represented San Pedro High School in track and field events. Aysha Acosta and Tamilli McCauley also joined the King's College Basketball team in this year's CODICADER competition.
