9PM curfew goes into effect on July 26th

On Monday, July 26th, a new curfew will go into effect from 9PM to 4AM. The new curfew is in response to the spike in COVID-19 cases across the country and is expected to be in place for two weeks.

Three villages in the Toledo District placed on lockdown after an increase in COVID-19 cases

Due to the alarming spike in COVID-19 cases in three rural communities in the Toledo District of southern Belize, the government implemented a lockdown for the villages of Conejo, Midway, and Barranco for the next two weeks. The lockdown started on Friday, July 2nd, and a curfew from 8PM to 4:59AM will be enforced. During these two weeks, the government will assist the villagers.

COVID-19 Cluster Identified in Santa Cruz Village

The Ministry of Health & Wellness, through its ongoing COVID-19 surveillance, has identified a cluster of COVID-19 cases in Santa Cruz Village, Stann Creek District.

Slow tourist activity at the now-open land borders; no cases of COVID-19 detected

Against the advice of several health officials (doctors), the Government of Belize (GOB) reopened its land borders with Mexico and Guatemala on Monday, May 31st. The reopening of these borders only allows tourists to enter Belize. The current flow at both borders has seen an average of ten travelers per day, and no one has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.

MOE’s Statement on COVID-19 Cases in Schools

The Ministry of Education (MOE) continues to monitor the schools that have reported COVID-19 cases since returning to face-to-face instruction. The ministry assures parents and the public that protocols continue to be strictly followed.
