U.S. Embassy Donates Vehicles to Support the Fight Against Crime in Belize
U.S. Embassy Belmopan presented six vehicles to the Government of Belize on Thursday, October 14th as a security donation to the Police Department and the Customs and Excise Department to deter and disrupt criminal activities in remote areas and to expand law enforcement training opportunities for officers throughout Belize.

COVID-19 regulations: Curfew extended; only vaccinated patrons allowed in restaurants
On Thursday, October 14th, the Government of Belize released Statutory Instrument (SI) No. 119 regarding regulations to control the spread of COVID-19. Among some of the rules in the SI, is the extension of the current 9PM curfew and requiring employees from restaurants, saloons, diners, and its customers to be immunized.

Ministry of Health Issues Advisory on Local Advertisements for COVID-19 Testing
Ministry of Health has become aware of individuals and companies advertising that they perform PCR testing or rapid testing for COVID-19. The Ministry is also aware that some entities are offering the service of facilitating the importation of COVID-19 test kits for purchase in Belize. The Customs and Excise Department has issued an advisory that the clearance of any COVID-19 test kit will not be approved without prior authorization from the Ministry of Health.

Food and Drug Administration Issues Advisory on Hand Sanitizers
The Ministry of Health is aware that an advisory sent from the Director of Health Services to the Customs and Excise Department is in circulation on social media platforms. The internal correspondence is a notification of an alert issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on sanitizers contaminated with methanol. Methanol can be toxic when ingested or absorbed through the skin.

Ambergris Caye welcomes the Special Olympics Torch
The Special Olympics Belize Torch was hosted in San Pedro Town by the island’s police formation after arriving on Tuesday, December 3rd. The following day it was paraded through the main streets of town by members of the police department, the San Pedro Town Council and students from different schools.

On Wednesday, May 3rd, the United States Embassy handed over a variety of equipment to the Customs and Excise Department in Belize City.
