Ministry of Labour Holds Validation Workshop for Decent Work Country Diagnostic

The Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government is hosting a three-day validation workshop for the Decent Work Country Diagnostic from November 28 to 30 in Belize City. The Diagnostic is a key step in the design phase of a new Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) for Belize.

Belize Participates in Regional Workshop on Migrant Workers’ Rights

Belize participated in a regional workshop hosted by the Regional Conference on Migration (RCM), in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), in Panama City on June 28 and 29. The delegation included Mr. Valentino Shal, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government; Mrs. Rissela Dominguez-Patt, Labour Commissioner; Mrs. Aida Reyes, Senior Labour Officer; and Ms. Lorine Pott, Port Commander, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration.

Labour Department Provides Child Labour Capacity Building Training to Frontline Workers

On March 16, 2023, the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government held a Child Labour training workshop for frontline workers from various ministries and institutions to foster interagency collaboration and combine efforts to end child labour.

Ministry of Labour Re-Initiates HIV/AIDS Policy in the Workplace Initiative

The Ministry of Labour, in collaboration with the National AIDS Commission (NAC), has reinitiated the HIV/AIDS Policy in the Workplace Initiative. As part of that engagement, the Labour Department and the NAC held a certified training seminar in Belize City on February 1st, 2nd, and 8th, 2023, for 12 Belizean companies and organizations. The program will be extended nationwide in the coming year.

Minimum Wage Increases for All Categories of Workers

The Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government notifies the public that in accordance with the Wages Council (Wages Regulation) (Consolidation) (Amendment) Order, 2022, Statutory Instrument No. 169 of 2022, and Wages Regulation (Manual Workers) (Amendment) Order 2022, Statutory Instrument No. 170 2022, the minimum wage for all categories of workers has increased to $5.00 per hour effective January 1, 2023.

Ministry of Labour Launches New National Child Labour Policy and Strategy

The Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government launched the new Belize National Child Labour Policy and Strategy 2022-2025. Child labour is a complex issue and requires strong partnerships, social dialogue and collaboration. The policy seeks to reduce its incidence by eliminating the worst forms by 2025.

Child Labour & Trafficking in Persons Training for the Agriculture Sector

The Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Council, is holding a series of child labour education sessions for Belize's agriculture sector.
