Representatives of the Saudi Fund for Development Visit Belize

Eng. Bandar Alharbi, Director for Europe and Latin America Operations, and Eng. Ibrahim Alsayyar, Construction and Transportation Sector Specialist, of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) visited Belize from August 22 to 25, 2022. The Government of Belize has been in communication with SFD seeking opportunities for financing for a number of projects including the construction of a hospital.

Government postpones vaccine mandate of essential and public officers

The vaccine mandate against COVID-19 for essential and public officers was to come into effect on December 15, 2021, has been postponed. The decision was made on Wednesday, December 8th, following a meeting that included Minister of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform, Honourable Henry Charles Usher, Minister of Health Wellness, Honourable Michel Chebat, Public Service Union (PSU) president Dean Flowers, Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform, Rolando Zetina, and the members of the PSU’s Executive Team.

Ministry of Health & Wellness Receives Donation of Medical Equipment from the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan)

Hon. Michel Chebat, Minister of Health & Wellness, and H.E. David Kuan-Chou Chien, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Belize, met on April 29th in Belmopan for a handing over of medical equipment.

Cabinet Brief for 28th April 2021

The Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño, met in regular session on 27th April 2021. • Minister of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform Hon. Henry Charles Usher informed the Cabinet that he wrote to the Joint Unions on 22nd April outlining Government’s position. • Cabinet was informed by Hon. Michel Chebat, Minister of Health & Wellness, that to date, 40,000 Belizeans have received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccination, which is in line with Government’s plan to ensure that 70% of Belizeans who wish to be vaccinated are vaccinated by September.

Ministry of Health & Wellness Extends Contracts for Hemodialysis Services

Dialysis is needed when kidneys stop functioning properly and cannot remove waste from the body commonly caused by diabetes and high blood pressure. The number of individuals with end-stage renal failure has been increasing continuously. One of the Ministry’s responses is to expand the dialysis coverage to patients who are struggling to meet the high cost of hemodialysis treatment.
