Fuel Price Update

The most recent shipment of diesel received this week brought with it a further increase in acquisition costs. However, to maintain the pump price at the current level, the government reduced all levies on diesel by 76 cents per gallon. This is in addition to an earlier reduction in taxes of $1.17 that took effect on March 12, 2022. Thus, the total reduction in taxes on diesel this month now stands at $1.93 per gallon.

Government of Belize provides Fuel Price Update

The Ministry of Finance announces that effective today, March 24, 2022, the regulated pump price of regular gasoline is now prescribed at $13.50, representing an increase of 66 cents compared to the last shipment Belize received. Not only is this increase entirely attributable to the acquisition costs of the product but in order for the price to be kept at this level, the Government reduced all levies on regular fuel by 29 cents.

European Union Supports Modernisation of Ministry of Finance with New IT – Equipment

To support the modernisation of the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Aniceto Rodriguez, Head of Cooperation of the European Union (EU) to Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas, handed over to Mr. Joseph Waight, Financial Secretary, new information technology (IT) equipment for the ministry.

Analysis of the State of the Nation’s Economy

As the Government of Belize continues its consultations with social partners in the public and private sector, the Ministry of Finance has released the findings of a preliminary analysis into the state of the nation’s economy to date.According to GOB the average income per person (real GDP per capita) has fallen steadily since 2008, from $7,412 in 2008 to $7,040 by 2019, and then plummeting to $5,843 in 2020.

Changes in the Pump Price of Fuel Effective December 11, 2020

The prices for regular gasoline and kerosene will register increased as follows: Regular Gasoline will increase by 48 cents from $8.61 to $9.09 per gallon; Kerosene will increase by 1 dollar from $4.73 to $5.73 per gallon. The prices for premium gasoline and diesel will remain unchanged at $9.49 and $8.11 per gallon, respectively.

Change in Pump Price of Fuel Products Effective August 19, 2020

The prices for regular gasoline will register a decrease and diesel will register an increase as follows: Regular gasoline will decrease by 14 cents from $8.76 to $8.62 per gallon; diesel will increase by 19 cents from $8.21 to $8.40 per gallon. The prices for premium gasoline and kerosene will remain unchanged at $9.36 and $5.43 per gallon, respectively.
