Reported increase in flour prices not approved by government

A report on the increased price of flour has raised eyebrows among the many Belizeans who enjoy flour tortillas, fry jacks, and of course, pack bread every day. The increase reportedly reflected the popular ‘La Gitana’ and ‘Bebe Agua’ flour brands. With the rise in this staple, the same was expected with bread, buns, and pastries. While in San Pedro Town, the local bakery did not confirm an increase in their prices, the government’s Supplies Control Unit (SCU) of the Belize Bureau of Standards issued an official note on Wednesday, August 4th pointing out that there has been NO CHANGE to the controlled price for Bebe Agua and La Gitana flour in the marketplace.

New controlled prices for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)

The Supplies Control Unit (SCU) in the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Commerce is hereby informing the general public that effective Wednesday, October 7th, 2020 new fixed controlled prices will be introduced for the sale of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). This change now reflects the sale by wholesale volume and retail sale by volume in both urban and rural areas. 

Sale of Liquefied Petroleum Gas

The Supplies Control Unit (SCU) of the Belize Bureau of Standards has received and confirmed reports of the sale of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) below the fixed controlled prices at several locations countrywide. The SCU hereby informs those partaking in this illegal activity to desist as they are contravening the Supplies Control (Prices) Regulations (Statutory Instrument No. 88 of 2020). Continued violations will result in penalties being pursued to the full extent of the law.

LPG retail and wholesale prices receive modifications

The implementation of this new price regiment for the retail price of LPG is motor vehicles, households, restaurants, hotels, and a maximum wholesale price for quantities more than 300 gallons, less than 3,000 gallons and quantities more than 3,000 gallons. The price will also vary according to district and town, with transportation fees being accounted for.
