Living on the island is a wonderful opportunity for many, but every so often, there is a need to get out and stretch the legs, see something different, get a different perspective, and come back home, thrilled to be home, appreciative of what Ambergris Caye offers. While those who live on the mainland can easily hop on a bus, specialty taxi, or rent a car, islanders have that little issue of being “on an island”. Traveling to Chetumal, Mexico from San Pedro, Ambergris Caye used to involve taking a boat or plane ride, then a bus or taxi ride across the border in the northern district of Corozal.

Now with the availability of direct boat runs to the port in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico, for a few hours a day, or overnight, or a weekend getaway one can travel direct, eliminating the various pit-stops that were once involved. Of course, the novelty of travel through Belize, not to mention, the spreading of the dollars to all businesses involved, is also recommended.
