Island commercial fishermen discuss possibility of forming association

Commercial fishermen from Ambergris Caye convened at the Hol Chan Marine Reserve conference room on Wednesday, March 11th, where they discussed issues affecting them and came up with ways to address the said problems. The fishermen also discussed the possibility of forming an association so that members have a way to voice concerns whenever decisions affecting them are being made.

Change in the Pump Price of Fuel Effective March 7, 2020

The Ministry of Finance announces that on March 7, 2020, the pump price for regular gasoline will increase by 50 cents from $9.73 to $ 10.23 per gallon.

Cost of Production Survey Design and Business Modelling for Small Farmer Public-Private Partnership for Value Chain Workshop

The Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) hosted a one-day workshop on Cost of Production Survey Design and Business Modelling for Small Farmers under the project “Sub-regional Capacity building in Sustainable Food Systems and Value Chain Development”. The workshop was held on February 25 at the National Agriculture and Trade Show Grounds Conference Room in Belmopan.

Changes in the Pump Price of Fuel Products

The price for premium gasoline and kerosene will register decreases as follows: Premium gasoline will decrease by 59 cents from $10.99 to $10.40 per gallon; Kerosene will decrease by 74 cents from $7.36 to $6.62 per gallon. The prices for regular gasoline and diesel will remain unchanged at $9.73 and $9.48 per gallon, respectively.

Belize is removed from the EU List of Harmful Preferential Tax Regimes

The Government of Belize has been informed that the recent amendments to both the Income and Business Tax Act and Tax Administrative and Procedure Act on December 23rd have been positively assessed and the ECOFIN Council has agreed to remove Belize from the EU list of harmful preferential tax regimes (Annex II).

Tour Operator oversaturation discussed at monthly San Pedro Tour Operators Association meeting

The San Pedro Tour Operators Association (SPTOA) held its general meeting on Tuesday, February 11th inside the Hol Chan Marine Reserve conference room to address the issue of tour operator oversaturation on the island. The discussion included recommendations on how the organization can work hand in hand with the local authorities when granting trade licenses to new tour operators and what can be the best mechanism to mitigate the saturation that is beginning to affect stakeholders.
