World Aids Day observed today!

As Win Belize’s 16 days af activisim, and on Sunday the Torch of Hope arrived on the Shores of La Isla Bonita. The torch run is important because it helps to unite the country together by carrying the torch of hope through all the districts and the cayes as well. This year, the San Pedro Aids Commission joined forces with WIN-Belize and held its annual Solidarity Walk in observance of the Worlds Aids Day on December 1st. Here are some highlights of the event!

The torch run itself brings to light the value of women but also the vulnerability of women to violence. The torch run is not only symbolic but is an issue of collective and individual responsibility which is guided by a principle which exist in the national HIV policy. The torch run not only addresses or in this case have participants who are women, but it also have participants who are men and those men recognize that the issue of women is a partnership, a partnership which will not be successful if both genders don’t come together in addressing the issue.
The run started in Caye Caulker on Tuesday, November 23rd and will continue in Dangriga today and culminate in Corozal on December 6th. This year’s Torch Run is being held under the theme “Silence has a Price!” Thanks to all that particpated!!
