Five ACES teachers receive Science in Education degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh USA

On Saturday, June 11th, five teachers from the Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES) were honored with their Bachelorโ€™s degree in Science in Education and a Special Education certificate from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The pivotal moment for the teachers was marked by a commencement ceremony at the Grand Caribe resort north of San Pedro Town.

Hon. Anthony Mahler and the BTB contribute to Community Development

Four schools in Belize City benefitted from donations made by Hon. Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations,ย and the Belize Tourism Board in the amount of $28,000. Contributions were made to the Belize High School Robotics Team and security camera systems were installed at Sadie Vernon High School, St. Luke Methodist Primary School, and Central Christian Primary School. The donations are part of BTBโ€™s and Minister Mahlerโ€™s efforts to support youth-focused activities and create a positive environment for educational learning.ย

The significant loss of learning during COVID-19 school closures in Latin America and the Caribbean is now putting millions of children at risk of dropping out of school, the World Bank, the Inter-American Dialogue, UNESCO and UNICEF warned during an event streamed live worldwide on June 2, 2022.ย 

U.S.-Funded Program Launched to Empower Youth Through Innovation

On May 26, 2022, the U.S. Embassy, The Trust for the Americas, and the University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus celebrated the official launch of the country's first Democratizing Innovation in the Americas (DIA) Lab, an initiative to empower youth and foster innovation through entrepreneurial training, mentorship, and access to technology and financial resources. The United States Government has funded this project through the Central America Regional Security Initiative-Economic Support Fund (CARSI-ESF).

Tour Guide course sees 40 new graduates

A class of 40 new tour guides graduated on Friday, May 20th,ย at the Rafael Angel Nuรฑez Auditorium. The program offered at the San Pedro Junior College and supported by the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) ended with a short ceremony where candidates received their certificates. The new graduates can now apply for their tour guide license to start their guiding career officially.

The MoECST Receives Donation of 260 Laptops from BSIF

On Friday, May 13, 2022, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MoECST) received a donation of 260 laptops from the Belize Social Investment Fund (BSIF) at a ceremony held at Sadie Vernon Technical High School in Belize City.

San Pedro High School to resume full in-person classes in May

While schools across the island have slowly transitioned from distance learning to face-to-face instruction, the San Pedro High School (SPHS) announced that as of Tuesday, May 3rd,ย all students will be required to attend classes physically. The school has been on a hybrid learning system, in which a portion of its student body attends classes and the rest studies online.
