Island athletes Kian Trejo, Kent "Bob" Gabourel, and Jesus "Levi" Contreras made their mark at this year's Belize City Triathlon, which took place on December 1st. Trejo earned second place in the Elite Male division, while Gabourel secured fourth. Contreras and his team also achieved first place in the Male Relay category.

San Pedro Buccaneers participates in Hockey Tournament in Mexico
The San Pedro Buccaneers, a ball hockey team, participated in an international tournament in Playa Del Carmen on November 15th and 16th. Teams from Mexico and Canada joined the competition, which was opened with a lively performance by a mariachi band and a welcome address from the Mexican Minister of Sport.

Annual Turkey Trot raises funds for Hope Haven
San Pedro Town started the Thanksgiving celebrations with the sixth annual Turkey Trot, held on Thursday, November 28th, at Boca del Rio Beach Park. The 5K (3.1 miles) run or walk raises funds for the island’s non-profit organization and orphanage, Hope Haven.

Kian Trejo participates in regional sports forum in the Dominican Republic
Island athlete Kian Trejo and cyclist Alicia Thompson represented Belize at the third Panam Sports Continental Athletes Forum, held from November 21-23 in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The event brought together 130 participants from 41 member countries to discuss various sports-related topics through conference sessions.

Team Reel Nauti conquers this year’s Overseas Fishing Rodeo
The second Overseas Fishing Rodeo, honoring Garifuna Settlement Day, was held on Sunday, November 24th, at Overseas Bar and Grill in the Boca del Rio Area. 18 teams participated in the day-long competition, where the best anglers vied for the grand prize. This year, the coveted trophy was awarded to Team Reel Nauti, who also caught the heaviest Wahoo, weighing 29.8 pounds. Team Reel Nauti brought in a total of four Wahoo, which contributed to their victory in the tournament.

San Pedro Pirates heading to PLB finals
On Saturday, November 23rd, a major upset occurred at Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen, as the San Pedro Pirates Football Club defeated Verdes FC 3-2. This win secures the Pirates' place in the Premier League of Belize (PLB) finals for the 2024-2025 opening season. With this victory, the island team triumphed over Verdes with a 4-3 aggregate score, eliminating one of the strongest teams in the PLB from the finals. The first leg of the finals will take place on Saturday, November 30th at 7:30PM at San Pedro’s Ambergris Stadium.

Belize National Football Team qualifies for the Gold Cup Preliminaries
After their 2-2 draw against French Guiana on Tuesday, November 19th, the Belize National Football Team (Jaguars) advanced with a 4-3 aggregate score, qualifying for the preliminary round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. This match was part of the CONCACAF Nations League.
