San Pedro’s Dr. Joshua Canul awarded a Chevening scholarship

Dr. Joshua A. Canul is preparing to leave the country to pursue a Master’s degree in Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the University College London. The British High Commission in Belize confirmed that Dr. Canul was awarded a Chevening scholarship recently to pursue such studies in the United Kingdom (UK). The island doctor has been at the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II since 2018, treating San Pedranos with acute and chronic illnesses, among other medical services.

Ministry of Sustainable Development and Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre Host National Dialogue on the Outcomes of COP27

The Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management, in partnership with the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) and with support from the British High Commission through the UK’s Climate Diplomacy Fund, hosted Belize’s National Dialogue on the Outcomes of the COP27 and Outlook for COP28 on May 18th, 2023 at the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza.

Deputy British High Commissioner meets with local authorities and stakeholders in San Pedro

On Friday, January 27th, the Deputy High Commissioner of the British High Commission in Belize, Kate Reynolds, held a meeting in San Pedro Town with key government representatives and private stakeholders. The gathering took place at Hope Haven community center, where Reynolds took the opportunity to introduce Graciela Peña, who is based in Cancun, Mexico, and will oversee consular services in Belize as British Honorary Consul. Reynolds added that the visit was also to thank island residents, local authorities, and stakeholders for their assistance to British nationals visiting the island.

As part of the Smart Health Care Facilities in the Caribbean Project Phase II Project, supported by the United Kingdom Department for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (UK FCDO), the British High Commission and the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) officially handed over the Palm View Center in Belmopan to the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MoHW) and credited the facility as a ‘Smart Health Care’ Facility.

On Tuesday, September 22, 2020, the British High Commissioner H.E. Claire Evans and the Chief Executive Officer of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms. Lou-Anne Burns signed a Grant Agreement in support of Belize’s “National Media Campaign on SARS-CoV-2” to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in Belize.
