Scientific conference in San Pedro discusses Black Holes; potential opportunities for Belizean students

A group of top international scientists gathered in San Pedro Town to participate in a unique event to explore the various observational and theoretical aspects of intermediate-mass black holes. The event dubbed ‘Intermediate Mass Black Holes: The Dawn of a New Era’ was organized by Northwestern University in Illinois, USA, and held from December 2nd to the 5th at the Grand Caribe Resort, bringing together a host of experts. They shared their ideas about black holes in a series of interactive presentations. The event also saw the participation of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology, which cited opportunities for Belizean students interested in astrophysics.

Belize: Endless Opportunities! San Pedro hosts the Belize Investment Summit

Prime Minister Honourable Dr. John Briceño officially opened the second edition of the Belize Investment Summit on Thursday, August 31st, at the Grand Caribe Resort north of San Pedro Town. The summit, held under the theme 'Belize: Endless Opportunities!' is organized to attract local and foreign investment to the country. One of the main topics highlighted at the summit's opening is the importance of exploring other aspects to build the economy, one of these being the Orange Economy, explained by special guest and keynote speaker former Colombian President Ivan Duque Marquez.

The second edition of the Belize Investment Summit will officially open with an inaugural ceremony on Thursday, August 31st, at the Grand Caribe Resort north of San Pedro Town. The event, held every two years, aims to showcase the investment opportunities in Belize and inspire current stakeholders to expand. The summit welcomed potential investors and stakeholders with motivational speakers from Belize and abroad. Attending the event this time as the keynote speaker is former President of Colombia, Ivan Duque Marquez. He is considered very vocal about the importance of the Orange Economy, which Marquez will promote at the summit.

NWC’s Social and Behaviour Communication Campaign reaches San Pedro

As per the Belize Crime Observatory, gender-based violence has been increasing since 2021 and remains a vital issue in the National Gender Policy, seeking to end acts of violence affecting women and girls. To further raise awareness on this issue, the National Women's Commission (NWC) is championing a move dubbed the Social and Behaviour Communication Campaign (SBCC) to spread the message of the need to change people's way of socializing and how they deal with differences. The campaign reached San Pedro Town on Thursday, August 24th, and presenters of the sensitization strategy engaged a group of island stakeholders at a session held at the Grand Caribe Resort, where vital information was shared.
