Prime Minister Hon. Dr. John Briceño set to retire after a second term in office

Belizeans are set to vote in the general election scheduled for 2025, where they will choose either to re-elect the current government led by the People's United Party (PUP) or to elect a new administration. Prime Minister Honorable Dr. John Briceño, a prominent figure in the PUP for decades, seeks re-election for a second term. On Wednesday, January 22nd, Briceño shared with reporters in Belize City that he hopes to retire from electoral politics after serving a second term.

PUP endorses Andre Perez for Belize Rural South

The People's United Party (PUP) has officially endorsed Andre Perez, the current Belize Rural South (BRS) area representative, for the 2025 General Elections. The endorsement event took place at Boca del Rio Beach Park in San Pedro Town on Friday, August 23rd. Many supporters and specially invited guests attended to support Perez's candidacy to continue representing San Pedro and Caye Caulker.

Firearms and Ammunition Control Board appointed

The inaugural meeting of the Firearms and Ammunition Control Board was held on Thursday, January 4th. The Board comprises the Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries Chief Executive Officer, Sharole Carr-Saldivar, Magistrate Mannon Dennison, and Senrio Superintendent of Police Clement Cacho. The appointment of this Board came after the amendment to the Firearms Act, Chapter 143 of the Substantive Laws of Belize, Revised Edition 2000, which seeks to revolutionize, reform, and regulate the sale, purchase, importation, exportation, trans-shipment, disposal, possession, and use of firearms and ammunition in Belize.

Arrests expected soon for San Pedro’s recent shootings

San Pedro Police continue their investigations into two separate shootings on Saturday, July 10th, and Monday, the 12th. The Honourable Kareem Musa, the minister in charge of police, is optimistic and, during an interview with The San Pedro Sun, said arrests are expected to take place soon.

PM Barrow visits the USA to address issues within the banking sector

Prime Minister Honorable Dean Barrow departed for Washington, DC, USA to attended meetings with key senior officials of the United States Federal Government and of the US banking monitoring systems on the problems being faced by the Belizean banking sector.
