National U17 Football Team returns home after CONCACAF tournament in Mexico

The Belize National U17 football team returned to the country after participating in the 2025 Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) qualifiers held in Toluca, Mexico, from February 7th to February 16th. The young Belizean team, the Jaguars, featured a talented goalkeeper from San Pedro, Erick Rodriguez. They competed in Group C against teams from Mexico, Nicaragua, Barbados, and Dominica, ultimately finishing in fourth place.

The young Belizean team, known as the Jaguars, will compete in Group C against Mexico, Nicaragua, Barbados, and Dominica.

Tren Maya could reshape tourism in Belize

The Tren Maya project, a major railway initiative in the southeastern region of Mexico, will possibly expand into Belize. Belize's Prime Minister, Johnny Briceño, has officially proposed extending the train across the Hondo River to promote regional integration and boost tourism. The expansion would occur in two stages: first, a seven-kilometer track would be constructed from Quintana Roo to Belize; second, a route would connect Belize to Guatemala, passing through Tikal National Park.

San Pedro Belize Express launches upgraded service to Chetumal, Quintana

San Pedro Belize Express launched the maiden voyage of their Three Star Voyager vessel for runs from San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, to Chetumal Quintana Roo, Mexico, on Saturday, February 24th. The ferry service will include runs between Belize City, Caye Caulker, and San Pedro and will now have extended service to Chetumal. The passenger boat leaves from the Caye Caulker port at 7AM, stops at San Pedro's International Terminal at 8:30AM for immigration purposes, and then leaves for Chetumal. The vessel returns at 3:30PM Mexican time.

Report shows impact of Sargassum in Belize and parts of Mexico

A report on the effects of sargassum and management proposals in Quintana Roo, Mexico, and Belize was presented to stakeholders in San Pedro Town on Saturday, October 28th, at the Sunbreeze Hotel. Dr. Minerva Arce-Ibarra, a scientist with the non-profit Ecosur, presided over the informational session.
