Ministry of Economic Development through RRB hands over Weather Sensors and Equipment to the National Meteorological Service of Belize for AgroMet Development
The Government of Belize (GOB), through the Ministry of Economic Development (MED), and the Resilient Rural Belize Programme (RRB), with funding from GOB, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF), provided weather sensors and equipment to the National Meteorological Service (NMS) of Belize. These tools will assist the AgroMet section in providing real time weather information to rural farmers and households in Belize.
The Resilient Rural Belize Programme via Subcomponent 2.3: “Investment in Territorial Climate Resilient Assets,” is financing the upgrade of the Climate Information system at the National Meteorological Service of Belize at a value of US $256,300.00.

SPTC plans to expand wastewater services north of San Pedro Town
Access to proper water and wastewater services is crucial to the residents of Ambergris Caye. The administration in charge, led by Mayor Gualberto ‘Wally’ Nuñez, is committed to expanding and improving these services in the northern part of the island in collaboration with various partners, including Belize Water Services Limited (BWSL), the Ministry of Economic Development (DOE), the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre, the Belize Department of Environment, the Belize Forest Department, the Ministry of Health and Wellness, the National Hydrological Service, and the Ministry of Economic Development, Belize.

MED Promotes Sustainable Growth and Digital Transformation in Belize
The Central Executing Unit of the Ministry of Economic Development (MED) held a joint handing-over ceremony on April 23, for two specific projects. Through the Sustainable and Inclusive Belize (SAIB) project, six extension officers were contracted to support the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise in the project implementation by providing technical guidance and coordination support to the project activities at the district Level.

Belize Receives GCF Grant to Support Sustainable Climate Resilience
The Ministry of Economic Development (MED), as Belize’s National Designated Authority (NDA) to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), is pleased to announce the approval of the GCF Readiness Proposal, “Strengthening technical and institutional capacities of Galen University, BLPA, PACT, BNPAS and the Government of Belize to access Climate Finance”. This proposal is valued at BZ$1,359,450 in grant funding. It was developed and will be implemented by the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) in collaboration with the beneficiary stakeholders.

The Ministry of Economic Development, Belize’s National Designated Authority to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), is proud to announce that the GCF has approved a Project Preparation Facility (PPF) application for a proposal titled “The Road to Resilient (R2R) fisheries - adopting ecosystem-based adaptation in four CARICOM Member States”.

UNDP partners with the Statistical Institute of Belize and Ministry of Economic Development to enhance the country’s ability to assess and address poverty
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Economic Development signed an agreement to partner with the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) on the development and implementation of an annual Monetary Poverty Measure (MPM) and to assist in the continued development of the national Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) statistics program. This support will serve to enhance the country’s capacity to assess and address poverty, including through its policymaking processes.
