Ministry of Blue Economy Hosts Vulnerability and Livelihood Consultations

Ministry of Economic Development begins GCF Accreditation Process

The Ministry of Economic Development (MED), Belize’s National Designated Authority (NDA) to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Climate Finance Unit (CFU), is pleased to announce that the GCF has released a first readiness disbursement of US$300,000 for the ministry to seek GCF accreditation.

Fisheries and Coastal National Adaptation Plan Project Officially Launched

The Ministry of Economic Development as the National Designated Authority to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) along with the Climate Finance Unit and the Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation officially launched the project entitled, “Enhancing Adaptation Planning and Increase Climate Resilience in the Coastal Zone and Fisheries Sectors of Belize” during its first project steering committee meeting held virtually on February 16, 2022.

Green Climate Fund Kicks Off Private Sector Training

The Climate Finance Unit in the Ministry of Economic Development, in its role as the National Designated Authority (NDA) to Green Climate Fund (GCF), in collaboration with the Belize Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI), has received financial support from the GCF, through the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and with the technical support of Willis Towers Watson (WTW), for a project to promote knowledge and understanding of climate finance in the Belizean private sector. The project focuses on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through capacity building to access GCF funding and design bankable projects (GCF concept notes).

Belize NDA to GCF Meets with Ambassador of Japan

Dr. Osmond Martinez, chief executive officer and National Designated Authority (NDA) to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment along with Mr. Leroy Martinez, economist/GCF focal point recently met with H.E. Kazuhiro Iryu, Ambassador of Japan to Belize. The meeting was held on October 11, 2021, at the ministry’s conference room in Belmopan.

NDA commits BZ$3 million grant from its GCF allocation to PACT

Dr. Osmond Martinez, CEO and the National Designated Authority (NDA) to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment met with Dr. Kenrick Williams, CEO and Chair of the Protect Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) in the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk Management. The aim of the meeting was to discuss funding opportunities for the development of a National Adaptation Plan (NAP) for various sectors including tourism, forestry, land use, and human settlement, etc. As a result, the NDA committed its remaining balance of BZ$3 million grant from its one-time GCF allocation.
