Site Inspection of San Pedro/Caye Caulker General Hospital Shows Progress

On Wednesday, July 23rd, Area Representative Honorable Andre Perez and officials from the Ministries of Health and Wellness (MOHW) and Finance conducted a site inspection of the San Pedro and Caye Caulker General Hospital project. The visit aimed to assess the progress of the long-anticipated medical facility, which is being constructed to serve residents and visitors of the Cayes. The contractor reported that the project is on schedule and expected to be completed before its April 2027 deadline.

Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Transport Engages in Knowledge Exchange Mission in Taiwan

A delegation from the Government of Belize recently visited Taiwan to engage in a knowledge exchange mission hosted by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Republic of China (Taiwan). The mission, which also included representatives from Guatemala, focused on green energy, climate resilience, e-mobility, and sustainable development.

Minister of Human Development signs a Letter of Agreement with the Secretary General of SISCA for the Elder Home Care Programme

Honourable Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Minister of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, signed a letter of agreement with Anita Zetina, Secretary General of the Secretariat for Central American Social Integration (SISCA). This agreement establishes cooperation aimed at strengthening and expanding the Ministry’s Elder Home Care Programme. The signing was witnessed by Ambassador Her Excellency Lily-Wen Hsu of the Republic of China (Taiwan), which is financing this programme.

Construction for San Pedro and Caye Caulker General Hospital begins

The construction of the San Pedro and Caye Caulker General Hospital, a significant milestone for the islanders, has begun. The first piles of its foundation have been erected, marking the start of a project expected to improve healthcare services for the community significantly.

Ministry of Sustainable Development and TaiwanICDF Conclude Community Disaster Resilience Training Workshop

The Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management and the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) held the closing ceremony for the Community Disaster Resilience Training Workshop. The ceremony marked the successful completion of the four-day disaster preparedness training in Santa Familia, Cayo District. The training was conducted under the “Flood Warning Capacity Improvement for the Belize River Basin Project”, a collaboration between the governments of Belize and the Republic of China (Taiwan).

Contract signed to build San Pedro General Hospital

The San Pedro General Hospital project promised by the Government of Belize (GOB) is closer to materializing after signing a contract for its design, construction, and equipment in the Capital City of Belmopan on Friday, February 16th.

San Pedro Government Hospital to provide over 200 jobs

At a public meeting in San Mateo north of San Pedro Town, Area Representative Honourable Andre Perez stated that the project for the government hospital for the island is finally happening this year. Perez said that although funds were secured, they had to find a property on the island for the structure, and plans had to be designed for the hospital. According to him, all that is done, and once completed, it will provide permanent jobs for around 250 employees.

Parliament Signs Record of Donation of Grant from the Republic of China (Taiwan) for Renovations of the National Assembly Building

On December 5, 2023, parliamentarians of the National Assembly of Belize officially recognized a donation that the Republic of China (Taiwan) will make toward substantial renovations of the National Assembly building in Belmopan. The Government and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) have committed to a donation of US$792,125.30, which will be used to modernize the infrastructure of National Assembly building.
