Fundraiser Planned to Support Pet Care and Belizean Youth Participation in an International Championship Regatta

Caribbean VillasPress Release – Caribbean Villas – May 27, 2015 – In lieu of gifts, Caribbean Villas is using Pedro’s 60th birthday as an excuse to throw an all-out lollapalooza of a fund raiser for his two favorite charities: the San Pedro Animal Foundation and the San Pedro Sailing Club. Regardless of what you think of him, these are two extremely worthy causes.
At noon, Sunday, June 7, Amber Beach Bar and Grill will begin the transformation into “party central.” Cool J’s band will cook up their hot Caribbean style of music, while aromas of a succulent pig roasting nearby mingle with those of hot dogs and burgers on the grill and tempt taste buds to succumb. Minions are at this moment gathering a myriad luxurious raffle prizes and auction items. Some of the latter will be part of a silent auction; others will be offered in Chinese auctions.
The San Pedro Animal Foundation funds veterinary care for pets whose owners cannot provide for them the complex or emergency care they need, without financial assistance. The foundation supports the San Pedro Animal Hospital, the only one in Belize that offers 24-hour service, and the standard of licensed, professional service it provides is acknowledged to be superb.
One member of the San Pedro Sailing Club, Kevin Velasquez, age 13, and the club’s coach, Juan Mazzini, have been invited to the 2015 North American Optimist Dinghy Championship Regatta, to be held July 5 -12 at English Harbor on the West Indian island of Antigua, over on the eastern edge of the Caribbean Sea. It’s the biggest regatta in this hemisphere. Kevin, a native San Pedrano and former Belize National Champion, joins three other young Belizeans in the country’s very first excursion into an international championship regatta of any size. Juan Mazzini will coach all four in Antigua, and has been and will continue to prepare them. The International Optimist Dinghy Association is providing a substantial portion of the cost of Belizean participation in the regatta, but there is urgent and immediate need of additional funds to cover the rest of the cost of sending the club’s coach and one of its sailors to the regatta.
National pride and the welfare of helpless animals in need are both involved. Please come out to support this worthy cause while enjoying a fun beach bash!
Thank you, Forrest Jones, Director, San Pedro Animal Foundation, Vice Commodore, San Pedro Sailing Club.
