Ministry of Agriculture Signs MOU Under the Fusarium TR4 Disease Project

On July 24, 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, the International Regional Organization for Health in Agriculture (OIRSA), the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA), the University of Belize, the Banana Growers Association, and the Republic of China (Taiwan) International Cooperation and Development Fund signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to combat the threat posed by Fusarium wilt Tropical Race 4 (Foc TR4) on banana and plantain crops and other diseases in Belize.

El Salvador Approves Importation of Belizean Products

Following efforts by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise to open markets for Belizean products in El Salvador, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of El Salvador has informed the Belize Marketing and Development Corporation (BMDC) that a request for a pest risk analysis (PRA) for four commodities ─ carrot, citrus, onion, and pineapple ─ has been approved.

Hon. Jose Abelardo Mai Attends IICA Meetings in Costa Rica

Hon. Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, was in San José, Costa Rica, attending the meeting of Ministers of Agriculture of Latin America and the Caribbean and the Forty-third Regular Meeting of the Inter-American Institute on Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA) Executive Committee at the IICA Headquarters, from July 18 to 20.

Tropical wave to cause rains this weekend

A tropical wave over the southwestern Caribbean Sea near Nicaragua will cause showers and thunderstorms across Belize starting Friday evening, July 28th. The National Meteorological Service of Belize said as the tropical wave approaches the country, the rain will increase throughout the night and tomorrow, Saturday.

Increase in international flights to Belize expected this winter season

The following winter season, destinations like Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker, and other mainland attractions across the country can expect a spike in tourism with the increase in seasonal flights from the United States and Canada. The Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations revealed that these additional direct flights to Belize will surpass those of 2019.

The machinery behind a successful San Pedro Lobsterfest
