The San Pedro Lions Club organized the annual Christmas dinner for the senior citizens of San Pedro Town on Thursday, December 19th. The invited guests were warmly welcomed by fellow Lions and Leos and treated to a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. The island's senior residents also enjoyed drinks and an evening of entertainment featuring the popular island band Rompe Raja. The club was busy the following day, sharing the Christmas spirit with their traditional annual caroling.

Proposed fuel station in north Caye Caulker causes mixed reactions from residents and stakeholders

Residents on the northern side of Caye Caulker have objected to a proposed gas station in their area. They have submitted formal complaints highlighting concerns about installing large tanks near homes, which they believe poses a hazardous and potentially life-threatening risk. Although the Caye Caulker Village Council has stated that specific requirements must be met before the project can proceed, some local tour operators favor the initiative led by Petrol Alliance Group Group Company Limited.

Injunction filed to halt construction of Artisan Market at El Embarcadero

The situation regarding the relocation of the artisan market in San Pedro, Belize, escalated when a recent injunction was filed to halt the ongoing construction project. The Ministry of Tourism and the Honorable Andre Perez, Area Representative for Belize Rural South, plan to build a new artisan market at El Embarcadero on Nurse Shark Street. This has faced strong opposition from local artisans, fishermen, and residents, who argue that the proposed site is unsuitable and threatens their livelihoods. This injunction was submitted by Severro Guerrero, along with other residents of San Pedro.

Pet microchipping clinic held in San Pedro

After the heartbreaking loss of her service dog, Ranger, in August of this year, San Pedro resident June Erickson launched a campaign to microchip as many dogs and cats as possible on the island. The Ranger Warriors Foundation initiative has been offering free microchipping for pets in San Pedro. So far, a total of 89 pets have been registered and microchipped. Erickson has been organizing microchipping clinics, with the most recent one held on Wednesday, December 18th, at the San Pedro Veterinarian Hospital. During this event, 43 dogs and three cats entered the tracking system.

On Wednesday, December 11th, The Island Academy (TIA) held its 29th Annual Christmas Pageant, delighting parents, friends, and special guests with another spectacular show. The traditional holiday event featured performances from junior and senior students, including plays and Christmas carols.

Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye renovates Hope Haven’s kitchen

The kitchen at Hope Haven Orphanage and Safe Home for Children in San Pedro Town has been upgraded with the support of the Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye and The Truck Stop. This renovation has transformed the kitchen into a more functional and comfortable space for meal preparation and daily activities. The next project will focus on renovating the dining area adjacent to the kitchen to further enhance the experience for the children living at Hope Haven.
