Doctor Love: Why do women cheat?

Sunday, September 16th, 2012

Dear Doctor Love,
I have been married twice and I have had a lot of girlfriends over the years. One thing that all of them had in common was that at one time or another they cheated on me. Why? I know the reasons they gave me at the time were mostly lies. What is the real reason women cheat?
/s/ Once Again

Dear Again,
A recent poll indicates the top ten reasons women cheat, according to them. 10) Not enough sex. This mostly applies to married men who have started to lose interest. 9) Being the bad girl. Just like men, women like to experience different things. In men, it’s called sowing your wild oats. With our double standard for the sexes, when women do the same thing it’s called being a slut. 8) Self-esteem. They feel good that someone else wants them. 7) Revenge. This does not necessarily mean revenge for your cheating. It could be revenge for you being a bad lover, a crook, or buying that motorcycle you always wanted. 6) Lack of intimacy. Women like more than just a roll in the hay. They want someone to talk to. 5) Feeling neglected or underappreciated. Once again, mostly for the marrieds. 4) Your emotional withdrawal. When she doesn’t know what you’re feeling she starts to feel threatened. 3) Bedroom boredom. An affair adds excitement to anyone’s life. 2) An exit strategy. Instead of breaking up with you, she cheats so you will break up with her. 1) Revenge for your cheating. Payback really can be a bitch and you might be married to her.
What these all add up to is that women cheat because they are human.
Do not make the mistake, however, of thinking that all women cheat because they do not. As you can see from the list, almost all of these reasons are avoidable just by keeping your eyes open and paying attention to them. Something tells the Doctor that you are probably not the most sensitive of men when it comes to the needs of women.
