Reopening of the PGIA and Schools Delayed

Today at a press conference held in Belize City, it was announced that due to a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in three districts, there will be a delay in the reopening of the Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA).

U.S. Government Hands Over Classroom Building in San Isidro to Ministry of Education

On July 30, the U.S. Embassy and the Ministry of Education held a ceremony to announce the handover to the Ministry of Education of a classroom building constructed through the U.S. Southern Command’s Humanitarian Assistance Program in San Isidro Village in Toledo District. The handover ceremony was attended by the Honorable Patrick Faber, Minister of Education and Youth, Sports, and Culture, along with representatives from the Ministry of Education, local government and school officials, and families of San Isidro students. The short program was officiated by Mr. Jose Funez, Principal of San Isidro School, with U.S. Embassy Belmopan Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Keith Gilges speaking on behalf of the United States.

Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye join forces with Belize Children’s Assistance Organization to send children to school

Enough funds were raised by the Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye to help send four children to school via Belize Children’s Assistance Organization.

Ministry of Education clarifies statements being made in regards to the termination of Anglican teachers

University of Belize Faculty and Staff Union Receives Trade Union Certification

The University of Belize  Faculty and Staff Union was today certified as the Bargaining Agent for employees of the (i) Full-time Faculty and Staff and (ii) Faculty and Staff on Temporary Assignment, where employment has been for two consecutive twelve-month contracts. Based on the results of a survey conducted on January 13th, 2020, the Union represents the interests of 237 employees.

BTB Staff Donates School Supplies to Students of San Antonio RC School, O.W.

Approximately 70 children from San Antonio RC School in the Orange Walk District received an assortment of back to school supplies as part of the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) staff’s community outreach to assist those in need during the COVID-19 crisis.
