New Experiences for CXC Summer Interns
Sixteen students have completed a four-week, summer internship programme with the Caribbean Examinations Council® (CXC®). The regional organisation selected the students from a competitive field of qualified applicants who were seeking the opportunity to learn on-the-job. The interns were assigned to six areas within the Barbados office (Eastern Zone Office) – the Office of the Registrar, Examinations Administration and Security, Examinations Development and Production, Finance and Office Management, Human Resource and Information Technology Services.

Lower level schools on Ambergris Caye begin academic year with MOE’s distance learning system
MOE has set up a new system to guarantee the safety of students and teachers, with parents/guardians now having to guide their children by homeschooling. MOE provides the packages, which include the teacher’s guide, activity worksheets for students to do at home, a calendar with scheduled conferences/meetings with individual students, among other tasks.

Reopening of the PGIA and Schools Delayed
Today at a press conference held in Belize City, it was announced that due to a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in three districts, there will be a delay in the reopening of the Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA).

U.S. Government Hands Over Classroom Building in San Isidro to Ministry of Education
On July 30, the U.S. Embassy and the Ministry of Education held a ceremony to announce the handover to the Ministry of Education of a classroom building constructed through the U.S. Southern Command’s Humanitarian Assistance Program in San Isidro Village in Toledo District. The handover ceremony was attended by the Honorable Patrick Faber, Minister of Education and Youth, Sports, and Culture, along with representatives from the Ministry of Education, local government and school officials, and families of San Isidro students. The short program was officiated by Mr. Jose Funez, Principal of San Isidro School, with U.S. Embassy Belmopan Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Keith Gilges speaking on behalf of the United States.
