On a bright and sunny Thursday, May 14th, the Holy Cross Anglican School (HCAS) held its annual sports day at the Honorable Louis Sylvester Sporting Arena. Students were grouped in houses (teams) to compete in various fun activities such as balloon toss, wheel barrow race, running races, sack races, lime and spoon and obstacle courses for children ages 7 -9, 10 – 13 and 13 and over. A trophy awaited the house with the most points at the end of the day, so the competition was really on!
According to Computer Lab Teacher and Sports coordinator, Aaron Thomas, this is HCAS’s third annual sports day. “Children are just having fun today, competing against each other in all the various games. Everyone who takes part in the games gets a medal next week,” said Thomas.
The four houses (teams), were identified with a color. Babb’s House was represented by Green, followed by Wilson’s House with Blue, while William’s House was Red and Ostenso’s House was Purple. The first item on the program was the balloon toss, followed by the wheel -barrow race and then the 60 meter, 100 meter and 200 meter track races. Coaches and teammates loudly encouraged participants, hoping they gained the most points in each game.
After the lunch break, the enthusiastic players competed in the fun sack race, three- legged race and obstacle course. When the scheduled games were over, the teachers along with their teams took on a final sprint before the prizes were distributed.
With a total of 1,005 points, Ostenso’s House came in fourth place, followed by the Wilson’s House taking the third place with a total of 1086 points. William’s House took second place with 1,290 points, while for the second year in a row; Babb’s House took top honors with an amazing 1,623 points.
Thomas commends all the teachers and students for making this sports day another successful one and they look forward for another excellent sports event in 2016.
